Good fun, Chris. Looks like a great bunch of guys.
Is St. Andrews the old Gimli? I think AC just retired the old Gimli Glider last year. I still remember the footage when it hit the news. That thing flew for another 30+ years without a hiccup.

Yep sure are a great bunch. St Andrews is an active airport between Winnipeg and Gimli. we share a decommissioned runway with a Derigable company (though I've never seen anything come out of their hanger :? ). Gimli Is where the road course is, along with a drag strip, and go cart circuit (see GT40 vid) though we do run one event there in July.
I remember as a kid driving home form the lake and seeing the tail sticking up from the highway. Had it ditched in the lake (plan B) we would have seen it splash down from the beach .

Joshua yer welcome any time!

Glad you all liked the Montage. Mike puts a lot of effort into them.

Since you are such a good audience, here is last years.

Couple of my favorite pictures from this summer.
Had a few wet events earlier in the season.

Last event of the year. Trying some new street tires (Bridgestone RE71s), seem to have some grip. Stiffer springs in the back.

Other musings. Drove An S2000 with a Momo seat. Had real nice shoulder support couldn't believe how well it helped keep me in place. So picked up a 16' Ultrashield. Almost fits!

Added a proportioning valve as the front right corner is the 1st to lock. Unfortunately even wide open to the rear this is still the case. Gonna try mixing brake pad compounds for more rear bight.

Have a nice list of things to work on over the winter, but so far just buying stuff. Need more rear grip so got these.

In other news, found my next project. its a 1978 Honda Civic. These were my 1st 'winter' cars as a youngster. Found this (and the donor) sitting in a friends shop (Al). Al races and builds Hondas summer and winter. It had been disassembled and media blasted 8ish years ago, fully caged and then....sat (too many projects for Al).
So now its mine! Still bare metal. Not quite ready for it but couldn't pass it up.

The not so straight red car is an old ice racer to pick parts from (done).

And here is the proper donor. A 93 civic build for SMF. This car is a multiple class winner. Many FTDs. In other words, its fast.

Attachment:
eg1.jpg

Highlights-
Drivetrain:
-JDM d16a (SOHC VTEC- OBD1, identical to a d16z6 as far as I can tell)
-GT25R (ball bearing) turbo with a mix of ebay and custom plumbing, intercooler, etc.
-internal wastegate - 8 psi
-Precision injectors, Walbro fuel pump, AEM wideband, tuned with Crome, runs on 91 octane
-Upgraded but totally streetable clutch
-MFactory helical diff
-Si transmission with 4.06 final drive in place of stock 4.25. 2nd gear at 7400 rpm is ~105 kph.

Attachment:
eg2.jpg

Suspension:
-Koni SPSS (shortened and race valved) with adjustable perches and 2.5" coilover springs
-Integra front sway bar
-ASR 24 mm rear sway bar and brace
-adjustable front and rear camber

Attachment:
eg3.jpg

Attachment:
eg4.jpg

Other:
-Integra steering rack (powered)
-carbon fiber hood with hood pins
-fenders rolled/beaten/pulled for big tires
-Si gauge cluster
-Sparco seat on drivers side.
-ARP extended wheel studs and solid aluminum spacers

Again not ready for it but. couldn't pass it up. I had initially planned on just using the drive line but may see if I can work the suspension into the 78!
And as a bonus, until I part it out I'l have a rain car for AutoX!

Very nice. Did you order the wheels direct and pick them up on the US side? I'm guessing 13x10's all around? What do they weigh? I got my wheels from Marsh Racing, and I think the 13x10's are 14lbs each and I think I paid about $80 each, plus shipping.

Thanks Kristian. Yes 10x13 Bassetts all around. Weight is listed as 16lbs, not light but with the light bias slicks the overall weight feels about the same as the Bridgestones on the RPF1s. So didn't loose but didn't gain. I got them thought JMS Motorsport. Same vendor where I got my Ali panels, reamer, and the rear springs above. He's based in the US but either brings or ships up here as he services the local dirt track scene. So $72 US each (still had the old price on the web sight that he honored) or $100 Canadian pesos, no shipping charge. It's great getting stuff from John.

That is pretty good. With the extra weight I wonder if the rims are any thicker than the MRW's I have, they're fairly fragile and easy to bend the lip of the wheel when mounting tires. I was going to ask if you got the springs in Canada, but that's answered too. There's a paved oval a couple hours from were I live, I should probably check that out. Someone there will probably have a similar connection to a supplier.

OK, Chris, it's been a little less than two years since I last asked you this question. How are those pre-painted aluminum panels on your Locost (Batmobile) holding up. If your experience has been good, I may end up using them on mine, and (hopefully) save myself the hassle of doing a black paint job on a homebuilt, aluminum bodied car.

Yeah, it looks like it's finally gonna happen. I should start meltin' steel together in the next few weeks! :D

Hi Mike, good to see your getting at it. I've been very happy with the pre-painted sheets. No complaints. Paint has held up fine. they have a few dents, (they are quite thin), but that's me sacrificing cones . I would/will use them again.

Thank you, Chris. I guess that settles that for me. No Black painting. Now maybe I can get away with using black gelcoat for my scuttle and nosecone, then the only painting I'll have to do will be the green fenders and racing stripe.

My sister had one of those Hondas. She crashed that thing 3 times. My dad kept rebuilding it and it kept going. They were built well.

A few posts back you saw that I'd bought a set of Avons. Well as I can't drive these to the track, this was just the excuse I needed to get a trailer. I couldn't find anything suitable for a reasonable price, so I build my own from scratch (of course 8) ) to pass the winter months. I've always been a fan of the 'Brunton' tilt trailers, so that's what I built. For this build I opted to use all new parts as I was to lazy and impatient to look for used. It rides on a 10 deg, up torsion axle w/ brakes. I bough the steel with a friend as he has plans on building a trailer as well. He has a proper saw (oh so nice!) in a big shop, so we where able to knock off cutting for two trailers in an afternoon. The Brunton trailer has fixed 'ramps'. I put mine on hinges so it would fit in my garage (and it does!) I've attached a few pics of the processes and its first steps outside. Not the most exiting but it what I've been working on, eh. Sorry no 1st drive pics yet, as I was hustled away to go out with the family before i had the chance.

I'm glad its done, as it was getting a bit cramped and very messy with 3 cars and the trailer in the garage (sold the blue miata to make room for the next project :( ). Now I can get back to working on the se7en. though I have not been working on the car while working on the trailer, I have been spending money on parts (idle hands and all). Ordered a fat Racing Beat front sway bar, poly bushings for the rears, and better pads for the back to help rear bight.

Seen in Winnipeg today. Is it possible that Chris got a new truck to pull his new trailer? BTW, where is the orange on the trailer going to be?
