Although we had a set of ITBS from a GSXR 750, Marc found a real good deal on some barely used TWM ITBs. The adavantage was they are a straight bolt on to his existing intake manifold. There a lot of little things needed to convert from carbs to electronic injections so it feels like christass right now :D

I'll need to post pictures on the conversion.

cheers,

Fred

Well after a 3 year break from the build and racing, I'm back at it...

Here the car as its sites this weekend... One thing is for sure I need better fenders for the 13s

The 13X8 fit with the pinto spindle... I just need to order my 9.5 solid inch disc for the front.

I'll post, latter, some details work, I've been doing to get this thing running.

Cheers,

Fred

Fred, glad you're back!

Are you sure that's Canada? I don't see any snow. Last snow in my yard was 3 days ago...

Hey Marcus...

Yup I still have bit left in the backyard as it doesn't get much sun... This winter was the coldest in ages up here... We only got 1 real snow storm i.e. 12 inches+, then it was just an inche or two... some weeks it was 2-4 times... In the end we had a decent amount...

Thanks Ewhen... I tought about doing them in aluminium with a shrinker...

Yhea I'm back...

Will see about driving this year. My left arm is not healing as fast as I want, I injured it 2 years ago and re injured it this winter. Its kinda hard to follow the total rest instruction when wanting to do something around the house or car...

Ok.. heres a shocker... the 13's Rota will work with the 10.25 vented rotors... its really tight 2mm clearance between the caliper and the wheel. Not all Wilwood dynalites caliper are created equal. The billet did not seemed to fit, but the cast one does... I'll post pictures tonight.

Perhaps the 10.25" rotors could become just a bit smaller? Maybe 10.125" rotors...

I think the 2 mm clearance may be too little. I've seen pictures of wheels that looked like they had clearance but then rubbed the caliper on the track. They will flex on turns...

Hey lets bring this tread back from the dead 2... I had posted when the forum went down, but the post was lost when they were able to restore the forum.

I'm back on the Locost with a vengeance. 4 years ago we move to a new house and I decided to treat myself to a proper garage. the new building is 26 feet wide and 28 feet long,

One thing I wanted was a lift, I loook at different options but for my needs a scissor lift was the perfect choice, I mainly do tire changes and oil changes on my daily driver, but the real work or my toys,
Attachment:
Locost on lift.jpg

The Locost has no access from the bottom due to the welded steel floor, the other toy, a 2008 Porsche Boxster S I can do almost everything on the lift

now for the Locost... Last summer when the garage was finished I decided to go back to my root i.e. Solo 2, the car had a cage and other components aimed at Track days/Road racing.
The first order of business was to cut the cage out. I started out at the back and cut out the rear structure incorporated in the frame.

Attachment:
rear chassis with roll cage.jpg

once cut I just welded the upper and lower cross tubes

new upper cross bar.jpg

I also took the time to replace the Mumford Link for a Panhard bar. With the Mumfurd we always had a push i.e. understeer, we replace it on Marc's car with a Panhard Bar and it changed the behaviour of the car for the better. Not a complicated process. Just need to weld in a bracket on the chassis.

Panhard bar bracket.jpg

to attach the bar to the diff I am reusing the bracket used for the Mumford.

While I was working in the back end, I worked on the gaz lines, nothing complicated, just added two fuel filter before and after the fuel pump.

I then moved to the rest of the cage. My steering column support was originally welded to the Roll Cage cross bar. I needed a new structure, something that would be suitable to the crazyness of solo 2 steering inputs

I made a round section for the shorth trow shifter I had, it's a generic Ebay one, a little notchy, but for Solo2 I think it will be ok... We will see, I'm happy how this little exercise turned out.

I installed the Escort coil pack for the megajolt ignition, just made a little cut-out in the aluminium panel.
Attachment:

I had decided to remove my overflow tanks from their location as it was not convenient to empty the oil one.
I recycled my coolant overflow bracket and added a small tab that I could screw in with the side pannels
Attachment:
coolant overflow.jpg

I think having it removable with two screws will help working on the car. It's a race car and it will be apart often.

Did I mention it will be appart often
In order not to trip on the nose or the hood, I made some storage racks
Attachment:
body rack.jpg

Oh did I mention my 3 years old son loves working on the car
Attachment:
my little helper.jpg

I told me that it was his car... ok... I'm not sure that's a good thing

I'll post a little latter on the other things I've been working on the car for the last few months
Cheers,
Fred
