Most of you know that I just bought EcotecLocost's stalled SV project. So here's a little back story and the start of a new build log.

We struck a deal a little over a month ago and I had to figure out how and when I would make it to Michigan to bring it home.
Wifey Dearest and I headed to Chicago to spend the week of July 4th with her brother and his family. When we got there we got seriously involved in getting his remodel project back on track and ended up staying the whole month of July.

During that time I needed to schedule a trip to Michigan for work, so we decided to combine the two. We drove from Chicago to Detroit suburbs where my headquarters is located and EcotecLocost only lives 18 miles from my office...

Thursday 8/1 I rented a 5x8 U-Haul for the engine, tranny, frame and small bits. We strapped a lot of the steel to my roof rack.
Friday 8/2 Had a 35 year work anniversary lunch, then hit the road... 625 miles to home
12:30 am 8/3 pulled into the driveway in Greensboro.

Slept in Saturday morning, then unloaded the trailer. I didn't have anything handy to rest the frame on, but we had just bought a new lawn mower...

Sunday after Church I figured it was time to start work on a build table. Off to Lowes

Sunday after dinner, time for a test fit.

I'm not 100% sold on the Ecotec motor tranny combo. It's nice, but dang it's huge.
Spent a little time eyeballing a Miata NB roller skate on FB marketplace, talked to Wifey Dearest and made an offer. A low offer...
Seller accepted, so last night we drove to a Durham suburb and brought home the rest of the supplies needed to build the SV.

Complete 2001 Miata roller skate.

Motor, trans, Torsen LSD, radiator and fans, complete wiring harness, steering column, ECU, instrument cluster, and lots of small goodies in the tote.

I have to do work on the A Mod before I start this in earnest, but look for regular updates.

Excellent powertrain choice: light, inexpensive, mid-engine placement, no-shift tranny, and it'll smell like grass, exhaust, and burnt oil when you put into the garage...

Time for an update on Tinker Toys.
I pulled to A Mod off the build table on 12/21 and took her for a lap around the neighborhood. Satisfied I can do the rest of the work on the ground I put Tinker Toys on the build table.

Spent the afternoon of 12-23 rolling her around on the table, flipping it, etc to weld the tacked together frame.

Christmas Eve 12-24 I spent the day in the garage building the frame to hang the Miata rear subframe. The plan (right now) is to use the whole subframe. If I change my mind it will be easy enough to measure pickup points for the diff and a arms, then add pieces to what I've built.

12-26-19 Day after Christmas. I spent the day learning to use my tube bender and making pieces for the roll bar. End of day the rear hoop was tacked in place and the front under the scuttle hoop was held on with magnets. Note the rope and breaker bar Spanish Windlass. The front hoop was about 1/8 too wide. A little force multiplier took care of that.

12-27-19 Roll bar day 2. Off to Lowes to buy a good(ish) quality 1 3/4 hole saw. I needed to fishmouth tubes for the rear stays and harness bar. While I was bending tubes I made a rear bull bar to help protect the gas tank and provide a little extra stiffness to the rear subframe mount.

12-28-19 I yanked the Miata motor off the front subframe and started pulling accessories. No AC, no power steering, then ditched the factory header. I had to cut off a tube to create room to fish the trans down the tunnel.

End of day 12-28 engine sitting about where I want it. Just hate the oil pan being 2" below the frame though.

I have a question for you Miata based build guys. Where can I find a fully dimensioned front spindle. I saw the sticky with some dimensions from chetcpo. Is there a thread where I can find the rest of the dimensions?

I'm starting to model my front suspension bits and looking to replicate Miata track width and create similar to NB2 anti dive.

Looks like all the dims are there once you decide on tires and rims. Are you looking for offset for caster in the spindle?

Is the horizontal bar on the roll bar assembly crazy high or is it just the photos? Think mine is about 2" above the other frame components, yours looks like it's about 6".

Looks pretty stout though.

Offset for caster and the x,y,z on the steering arm.

It's just slid between the uprights, not at it's final position. Final position won't be decided until I get a seat mounted.
I do have a long torso though, so it'll likely be higher than most.

I just realized you already have the spindles that you want a measurement of.

It is hard to measure but it appears the spindle is 1/4 inch forward of a line drawn between the ubj and lbj cl. These are on the shelf loose but they have no tie rods. I don't understand why you don't measure your own. I'm sure you have a six inch hbf dial caliper and a straight edge laying around.

Considering the number of cars and builders I thought I would try to use what had already been done instead of recreating (or re-measuring) the wheel.

Going through a bunch of threads I see some disagreement on measurements, so it looks like I'll slide the car to one side of the table and measure for myself. If it's wrong, I'll be the one to blame.

If it can wait till tomorrow morning, I can get you the dimension off the CAD model I found a while ago:

That would be awesome. Tone ring looks like that's a model of a NB knuckle, so even better.

Hopefully this helps. Let me know if you need other dimensions.

Fantastic. Now I can work out not only the legs for suspension but also offset angles for pieces to center the ball joints.

Much appreciated!

My guess on the spindle offset was pretty good (I was .098" off) but that assumes whoever made the measurements for the cad drawing was spot-on. Something to compare to anyway.
