Howdy folks, I have been lurking and watching a lot of Locost builds and wanting to build my own. I hope to build two before it's over with, First I plan on building my version of Jack's Max/ Lalo. Second will be a faster sportier version of a more traditional Locost. All subject to change at a moments notice of course. This will take awhile to do becuase I am basically broke and will be building on a very tight budget.

I have started collecting parts for the Redneck Roadster to be using a Kubota D1105 T and Toyota T50 trans with Jacks adapter. I think I will end up using a Ford or Chevy rear with Mustang II front pieces, Mostly because they are easy to come up with. The frame may end up being a bit different than a traditional build because using Jacks Lola inspired body will allow some leeway in the foot box area, I am not a small man so any room I can make will be welcome.

Until I can make purchases on the rear axle and front suspension pieces that is all I have planned for sure. I have a lot floating around in that hollow space between my ears but until I get more hard parts I am not 100% sure where to go. All input from you folks will be read and regarded useful even if not what I want, So, feel free to advise.

A little about me.....
My name is Robert W Conner, AKA Bob, Or Badnews Bob. I live in Richmond Ky and I am 52 years old, I am a retired Navy aircraft electrician and until recently I work as an aircraft electrician for boeing, I like to work on old cars, making them work is more fun to me than making them pretty. I have some skills at fabbing things and I am not skeered to try. That is me in a nutshell there is more of course but I don't wanna bore you to much.

Thanks for reading this and I hope I can keep it interesting.

Here is what I am gonna use as the heart of my build.

You'll do just fine then! That second part is more important than the first.

Thanks for the welcome fellers.
Today I worked on making a down pipe adapter housing for the turbo. The one which came on the engine made a 90 to point straight up, I need it to point aft. It is a cast piece and I would guess Kubota would want a pretty penny for one, so, I made my own. It still needs some shaping but I do believe it'll work. Getting tired of that I have been making drawings of the required wires to operate the engine, It's very simple but I have never worked on one of these baby's and I don't have a book yet, Even without that I do have it running. Tomally I plan on finishing the housing and making a test harness to see if my guesses are correct. Also want to make prints of a 442 frame and start working on how I am gonna change it to better fit a lalo body. If things go well I will build my table next week after the Goverment lets me have a little more cash. That is about it for now. :D

Hi Bob and welcome!

Where did you get the Kubota 1105? I've been surprised at how much these little engines cost.

For $170000, I can't help but think I'd consider other options...

$1700 for a turbo motor is reasonable.
I'm also using a d1105 in a different config.

I guess you were an AT at Whidbey?

Robert,

That looks to be a Vortec SBC sitting on a stand in the background in the first photo. What's it going in?

Nope although I was there a time or two, I was an AE Stationed in Oceana Va. ( Worked on A6_E, SH-2F, and F-14 A/Bs Also worked in AIMD)
Since I retired I work for the Army on MH-6Ms and CH47s with a Blackhawk or dozen thrown in.

The Chevy motor is a V6 it was for my Toyota truck but I've changed my mind on that. I am gonna use a Toyota 3RZ.
There is a SBC sitting in there also but it is a DART headed 383 That is going into my 1960 Falcon Gasser wannabe.
I have way to many projects going on But I can't help myself.....Drag racing, rock crawling, Locost, Guns, hunting............Yep way to many. :ack:
