What size are those bushings? (o.d., sleeve i.d.?) I've been looking for an alternative to the Haynes book ones, since i can only find them on ebay uk, and they're $32, and $29 shipping!

or if you know the part # and i'll look myself! thanks

Hi toyotus

Check out the link below, it has all kinds of sizes, there should be something there that will suit your needs.

http://www.energysuspensionparts.com/Energy-Suspension-Universal-Link-Flange-Type-Bushings.asp

Shipping prices are excellent too, I think I ordered all the bushings I needed for this biuld for just over $100 including s&h.

That ain't science that's high level calculus.

It's math so far out there that I can't seem to master it. :(

Tacked up the front trailing arm bracket. Drilled holes and used the plasma cutter to cut out the half circles for the rear axle bracket and test fit it.

Built a jig for setting up and welding the trailing arms. Cut and bevelled the DOM tubing.

I decided to make the trailing arms before tack welding the rear bracket to the axle. That way I can assemble the works and check that everthing fits and that I look like I know what I doing when I weld the brackets to the axle. :)

DANG! What an idea! Wish I'd thought of that...

I answered you over on my log, but, here's the listing on the in-the-tank pump I used in my build. Yup, in-the-tank... What can I say? Seemed simpler, cleaner than an external one, fewer connections to leak.

Thanks JD, going to check into that fuel pump. I'm going to be building my own tank, but that's a bit further down the line (maybe project week 20).

Bit more done in the shop today. Clamped the jig is the work mate and tacked 4 points on all arm/bushing ends.

Ground the tacks down, then did a full weld on all 4 arms. I then decided to strap the top 'tension' arms do give me piece of mind for diff torque on acceleration. Why not strap the lower arms? Well the way I figure in laymans terms - on acceleration the top arm is in tension and the lower arm is in compression, tension pulls on the welds hence the straps. Some may argue the reverse is true when braking, yes, but I have 4 wheels braking and only 2 wheels torqueing on acceleration. Now my head hurts.

Anyhoo, I'm happy with the roll, bounce, and jounce movement of the diff. Thank you Captain Morgan
Full welds to come.

Todays project was to fab the panhard rod. Decided to use rubber bushings on this one instead of adjustable rod ends as in my previous build - a bit more challenging because its got to be bang on the first time. Cut the 1" tube and bushing ends, jigged it up and glued it together.

On the pass side I used 2x2x.125" for the diff attatchment and tacked it up. Then I measured the diff centering and re measured and re measured and .... you get the point
Attachment:
IMG765.jpg

On the drivers side I used 2x3x.125" to give the frame side a bit more load bearing area becuase of the height of the pivot point.
Attachment:
IMG766.jpg

I've got about 3/4" clearance past the diff cover which is OK. The panhard is parallel to the diff at the 5" ride height. Looks like I'll be able to fab up a 9 1/2"d x 10"h x 40"w fuel tank which should give me around 13 1/2 imp gallons (that's the Canadian coming out of me) of go go juice.

Before welding the panhard brackets in place you may want to lower both attachment brackets. Most builders try to lower the roll center on the rear end. You could look at adding several lower holes patterns on the frame bracket. Dave W

Be careful with that. I had to raise the attachment point at the axle because the panhard rod was hitting the RU tube before the axle. Suspension travel back there is already pretty limited, that just made it worse. I like the way you've got the chassis mount raised.

I would be worried about that high chassis mount. You have a lot of leverage with that high mount. You could tie it into the other close by tube and add gusset(s). Or look at other mounting options on both ends of the panhard. Dave W

As you can see, I *almost* put the panhard mount in the same area:

Attachment:
Rear_axle_resized_16-35-00_502.jpg

I built it out a bit, in the same spot as the Stalker, but a bit taller mount to clear a possible rear diff fancy finned aluminum cover. I might have eaten into my gas tank space in the process. I wonder if you can build something of a taller mounting point in your axle to better clear the diff?

Here is my frame mount, which I still might make into an adjustable thing:

I didn't design this thing, rather, I simply stole the idea from other builds (okay, the Stalker was the primary) and adapted it (okay, I made mistakes and just decided that "that looked about right").
