Hi everybody,

I guess its about time I start my build thread. I've been wanting to build a "7" ever since my teacher from Wyotech got me hooked on these little cars. I started to build one in collage out of 1" round tubing and managed to get the frame about 70% done. I was a little rushed to get it done so its not as perfect as I would like.

After a couple of years of distractions I'm finally going to try to tackle this project once again. The frame (which wasn't quite a masterpiece anyway) is now sitting in my barn rusting away so I have decided to start with a clean slate with a Haynes build.

My donor will be a running 1990 Nissan 240sx with front end damage. I purchased Wilwood Mustang II spindles, hubs and brakes for the front and plan to use Nissan rear brakes with 5 lug conversion hubs for the rear.

Hopefully it comes along fairly quick. I have been itching to drive one of these for some time now.

Good morning Mr. Ssssssmith... (Say it like the bad guy in the Matrix! )
Hey, good to have you aboard! Sounds like you had a pretty good "practice run" the first time, so this time should go a lot better. M-II front end pieces are not a bad choice at all, lots of street rodders use them, so there's all kinds of aftermarket stuff that will bolt up, as well as ready-made control arms if you want to go that way.

Good luck with the build, and keep us posted! (Hint- pictures are always good)

NO!! Please don't do that!

Just upload them directly to here.

1) they'll load faster for all of us who can't get cable internet

2) they'll be here forever and we won't get those annoying blank squares when you move them.

Welcome to the builder's log.

Please upload your photos to this site in a reasonable size (<150K) rather than using photo bucket or some other linked service. If you ever move or rearrange your Photo Bucket, then all links from this site will be lost. By uploading to this site, future readers will always have photos to see with your writing.

edit: guess I missed carguys post as I was writing the same thing. Hope you get the message

Just an FYI when you are loading they load in reverse order.

This just means begin loading with your last photo first.

And please be conscious of your photo's physical size. The software doesn't resize them so if you load a photo that's twice as wide as the page then everyone will complain because they have to scroll side to side.

Or you can load them all at once and selectively insert them anywhere in your message text in any order you want.

How?

I see it done, but I've never figured it out.

While you are creating your message, once you upload the 2nd photo, a window pops up on the page just above the area where you browse and upload the photo files. There you can select the photo filename and it will insert it where the curser is in the text field as if you were inserting an external photo hlink.

When you upload a pic, after the upload a small box appears between the photo upload box and the text box that has the name of the file you just uploaded and a button next to it that says something like "place inline" go into the text and put the cursor where you want the picture, click the button, et voila ici!

Here is the engine to my donor car.

When I bought it, the radiator and support were pushed back into the engine. After a half hour with a come-along to pull it forward, the car was ready for a test drive.

The frame is now starting to take shape. I decided to use 14 guage tubing for a little more strength. I pulled the differential out of the 240 and found out the pinion gear is off center so the half shafts are unequal lenth. I swapped them around (left one on the right and right one on the left) and ended up with the pinion right in the center.

Here are the the wheels I plan to use. They are American Eagle 211s. They were much cheaper than the American Racing equivalent.

Clever, very clever! Well done, Sir!
Looking forward to the rest of your build.

What? The frame's built already? We'd appreciate a little more frequent information about what's going on.
