Hurry Up! I’m anxiously waiting for you to finish your Mini. Oh, they are sooooo cute! All the women at work say so. Yes, just like those cute, furry little creatures in the horror movies that turn out to be flesh eating monsters. It will be nice to know there is at least one other idiot out there dumb enough to think these cars are fun.

Yesterday morning before work my wife had filled my station wagon with her yard sale stuff and then inexplicably drove off to the store in her car. No big deal, I thought, I’ll just drive the Mini to work. Well, yes it is dark and raining but the Mini hasn’t done anything bad this year. And the Mini did not disappoint either. The wipers did their impression of real wipers and the headlights stayed on the whole way. I made it to work before Joseph Lucas realized I was out there. We made it home too, take that electrical demons!

This morning I got in to drive it down to get a state inspection. No headlights. No running lights. No flashers. Must be a fuse. Popped the hood and checked the fuses. All four of them. No problems there, they were doing their happy, little fuse thing. Now I’m out of time so I take my wife’s new Mini to work. I have my Genuine British Leyland Shop Manual here on my desk. I’m not sure I want to look at it, maybe I’ll just use it to hit the first person asking “Where is your cute little car today?”

I need to head to AirGas today to see if my 125cf bottle of Ar/CO2 blend is ready. Buying a bottle costs a small fortune, at least getting it refilled is cheap.

I don't mind the ugly flux core welds on the hidden bits, but I want as smooth and clean as possible when I start working the outer body.

I didn't do squat on either project this weekend. Son came home for the weekend from college, so he, Wifey Dearest and I hung out and did non-car stuff.

I called the DMV inspector and postponed our meeting until next week.

Yeah, sometimes it's good to be out of the garage, with the folks... Good on you for doing that.

Showed the R1 project some love today.
Bundled the wiring under the scuttle
set the scuttle in place and added the R1 mirrors
Bolted on the windscreen
Made the VIN plate and riveted it to the chassis
Stamped the VIN in 2 other spots on the frame.

Here she is washed. All I need to do now is bolt in the seat belts and be nice to the DMV inspector.

DMV Agent came by the house today.
Him - Hey Mr. Samuels, good to see you again. Boy, this little car is pretty, looks even better than the green one.

Me - Thank you. What do you think about the aero screen? We talked about it a while back.
Him - Looks great on the car. You'll probably want to wear impact resistant shades driving it on the street. Don't forget, you're not legal to drive in the rain.
Me - Don't plan to. She's for days like this and some parking lot racing. Ready to go over all the systems?
Him - Does everything work?
Me - yep
Him - You sure?
Me - yep
Him - Give me a shout when you've got it licensed, I want to go for a ride.
Signed the 401B certificate and told me to have a great day

Wooooooooooo Freakin HOOOOOOOOO

Oh wow! Congratulations.
That's the stuff dreams are made of. When I'm tossing and turning, worrying about that damn inspection, I think of a fairy tale like this to get me back to sleep. Can you get his genealogy? Maybe he has a distant relative working at our Motor Vehicle Branch.

He sweated me pretty hard on TETANUS inspection. He went over her front to back and top to bottom with a fine toothed comb. What he learned was I pay a loto f attention to details. This time around he spent more time just walking around admiring it than anything else.
Seeing a row of nice neat switches, everything bundled and tidy under the scuttle and out of the firewall probably helped.

The hood scoop blew him away.

Congrats. That's about how my inspection went too, once I finally cornered the guy doing the inspection on a day that he actually had the vin tag and paperwork with him.

It's official, I've lost my mind. I struck a deal earlier today for another unfinished 7 project.

Now I have to decide what goes away to create space. I can lose my butt on a totally blown apart Mini or part with a nicely sorted, clear SC titled 2014 Lotus 7 Roadster...

There's a word for folks like you, Dude... They're called Nucking Futs!!!

Hate to see one of 'em go... Two cool car projects... At the moment, I'd say the 7 is a better "seller" and do more towards finishing the Mini, but whatever you wanna do...

Either way, good luck with it, Bro...

Thanks JD. I think the 7 is a better seller as well. At this point it's a running, drivable, good looking car. I'll have a title in hand in a couple of days, which makes it much more desirable than a basket case project.

I need to pull some more info together on the next 7, but it's a pretty neat looking project. If I had to guess I'd say 60-70% done.
Another road trip with Wifey Dearest and maybe a day of sightseeing along the way.

Life's good.
