We use them on army boxes for any kind of equipment when store sensitive materials.

Seats looks great. Do you think you will move around in them a bit? They look really comfy.

I don't think I'll move much, there's isn't that much extra space in the cockpit. It is pretty comfy. I started with 4 inch medium density foam for the base. I squished it down to about 2 inches, then stapled the vinyl.

The back was way too thick at 5 inches, so I cut 2 off. It's still too think and steals a couple of inches of legroom, not a good thing in such a small car. I think I'll take the back apart one night this week and redo it even thinner.

Nice seats, I have something very similar designed, but yours are even simpler.

I stole the idea in part from Jalopy Journal and in part from a jump seat for an old Jeep.

During the paper dolls phase I seriously considered making it so I could have a folding seat back.

If you don't feel like cutting and hammering, you can buy pre-bent frames on ebay

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Bomber-style-se ... 43&vxp=mtr

His are prettier than mine, but so far I only have $11 in my seat. :P

One problem with the seat; I lose about 2 inches of legroom :(

Looks like the back will come apart and I'll have to put in thinner foam. FItting everything into a book frame car is like trying to cram 10lbs of crap into a 5lb bag.

Nope, I'm 6'1" with long legs. When I bought this project I thought from the get go that I'd want / need more legroom. All along the way I've been sitting on the floor with my back against the rear bulkhead and it's always been a snug fit. At least I fit though.

Now with the seat I'm 1 1/2 inches higher and a little more than 2" further forward and I don't fit worth a damn. My knees are above the top rail

Here's the color for the R1

I got a color card from them a few days ago and this is soooooo close to what I have on the nose and fenders that it's not even funny.

I'll keep an eye on the weather and probably shoot it the week of Thanksgiving. I've got some vacation days I need to use.

A little garage time today working on something that I've been putting off for a while.

I had a Spitfire flip top gas filler spout hanging out in the cabinet for ages. I wanted a solid cover over the back of the car, so I needed to marry the two up.

The project started digging through my scrap bin for the piece of thin wall 2" OD tube I had left over from making the driveshaft.
A couple of cuts with the tube cutter, a little grinding to get a kick up angle, and a few minute with the drill press and MIG
The base plate is 16 gauge. A piece of trimming from the floor pans I made for Patches

Then use the hole saw on the tonneau panel

The hardest part of the whole project was laying hands on 2 inch ID hose to mate the flip top with the fill spout.

All done and ready to rivet on the tonneau

Last order of business today was to start disassembly for final paint.
The fenders, windscreen, scuttle, switches, and Vapor unit are all out. With any luck and some good weather I'll be able to paint it next week.

Paint arrived last night. Now if the weather will just cooperate in the not too distant future, Blood Sweat and Beers will be Daytona Blue.

I'm headed to the local jobber after work to pick up masking supplies, aluminum metal prep and DTM primer.

Weather not cooperating for paint. Decided to change gears on the seat. My little bomber style caused me to lose too much leg room

Traditional bench back. about 1 1/2 inches thick

I'll make simple squabs for the bottoms

congrats on the title! It gives me hope that i can get it done in SC too when my time comes. Please keep the DMV names and phone numbers handy, I might need them.

Now you can legally drive it up to Charlotte and give me a few pointers. I am sure Briggs will be happy to join in the fun.
