How hard is it to replace the springs? You mention changing to the harder springs for autocross so it must be easy.

Nope, it actually works like a clutch should. You can feel a friction point and everything.

I've had the cover on and off so many times now I can do start to finish in about 30 minutes or less. One allen wrench for swapping parts and an 8mm open end to adjust the clutch.

Some interesting comments on the BaT page. Not all, but most of them constructive.

Hope it sells for you.

Yeah I'd just ignore every comment on there. Those sorts of sites bring out some of the internet's finest armchair quarterbacks. I'm pretty sure all of the guys posting critical comments take their car to Pepboys for an oil change.

Beyfon
Can’t help but wondering what drives someone to do all the work building something like this and then selling it right away..?

Yup....Pepboys.

callmeishmael
I wouldn’t feel safe driving this without first having the frame checked out by an NDT (Non Destructive Testing) company. I do it with my own work.

Seriously dude?

Italia 227
I’m neither qualified (nor stupid enough) to comment on the build quality. Luckily, the seller has done so indirectly by assigning a minimum value of $10.71 / hour to his time.

Even assuming he’s assigned some value to his own entertainment in conducting the build, and/or has assumed the parts were effectively free, still a very low shop-time rate.

Totally clueless.

royldean
That harness mount is seriously unsafe. The fact that no harness bar was welded in leads me to believe that there are other structural issues…. But then again, 90% of the home-brew locosts are like that. Suspect at best.

While yours may not be SCCA GCR legal, I hope he never looks at the seatbelt attachment points on his daily driver. The older the daily driver, the more surprised he may be.

Evildad
It looks to me that he’s answered a number of the questions posted here with an addendum to the eBay posting. In particular:
“What do you mean no reserve, the price starts at $7500? For this car, that’s cheap. Don’t like my price, build your own damn car.”
LOL! Then again, no bids yet.

I've never understood this logic. Starting an auction at $1 and setting the reserve at $7,500 wastes everyone's time. Just say how much it is and move on! It took a few months for mine to sell and that was when the weather was nice. The crowd that will actually open the wallet and buy a Locost is small.

I really need to stop clicking on BAT or Daily Turismo links and getting myself fired up... :boxing:

If it makes you feel any better the one comment mine got on DT wasn't kind.

I haven't lost any sleep over the comments. I've probably had 2 dozen calls and messages since it hit BaT. Most are tire kickers, it looks like 3 may have a clue.

Got a very interesting trade offer of a nostalgia Altered dragster. Car is pretty wicked with small block Chevy, built TH350 trans, narrowed 9inch Ford, line lock, updated roll cage, etc. a legitimate 10 second car

Hallelujah and AMEN, Brother!
Couldn't agree more. Irritates hell outta me when people who have no accomplishments of their own try to diminish yours. I usually leave a copy of this in a clipboard somewhere visible when I park the Slotus:

Love it JD

I got a couple more interesting trade offers yesterday; a Morris traveler and a really interesting one off car. I haven't seen pics of the Traveler yet.

The one off is an aluminum body car. Looks to me modeled after a 60's sports racer. Powerplant from a Saab 900. Incomplete and needs finishing though. Needs wiring, clutch system worked out, shifter mechanism worked out.

Turned down a restored early 70's Beetle. Turned down a BMW 5 series. Turned down a Mustang GT. Turned down a 72 Nova (thought about that one though. It had some hidden rust issues) Turned down a couple of different bikes.

I've gotten messages from Saudi Princes and supposedly and ex-pat in the UAE... of course wanting to do a PayPal transaction and have their shipper contact me :P

We'll see how it goes.
I did get a response from the local SCCA guys clarifying that
YES THIS IS A B Mod Solo legal car.

Hmmm... Saab 900.... As in V6 with one bank turbocharged or 4cyl? Good engine, either way. Middie, with the Saaber powering the rear wheels? Love to see pics of it, when you can.
