Why replace the metric? Inevitably, there will be some that you cannot replace still requiring some metric wrenches. I think you'll find that the effort and time it takes to replace the metric, is much more than any inconvenience you'll run into by keeping the metric.

At least that is how I think.

I'm glad someone picked this project up. When I saw the classifieds post, I went so far as to Google map how far Broken Arrow, OK was from Houston, but common sense kicked in when I realized I had my own R1 project to finish. I remember his build log because of the shifter with the hand clutch on it. You plan on keeping that feature? I know it's a minor detail, but I've always been curious how that would turn out, since foot operated BEC clutch pedals are like light switches.

I don't know if the hand clutch will stay or go. Right now I'm leaning toward go, and building a clutch pedal with a 6 or 7 to 1 ratio to give a bit of feel. I don't want a light switch.

Spent a little time at lunch tinkering with Sketchup to get a feel for it... somewhat cumbersome, but tolerable.

I needed to make paper dolls of a seat that's been rolling around in my head. It took about 4 times longer in sketchup that if I did it full size on Karft paper, but it was a learning experience.

What do you think of my Kirkey - ish seat?

Cardboard is cheap, or even free if you scrounge around behind the grocery store...

I'm planning/plotting a hood for my car, and thinking along the same lines. I've been folding up pieces of cardstock and such thinking I'll do "life size" in poster board next. Might take the poster board pieces to the fab shop and let them do the cutting! (That way it might even wind up being square and have straight edges!)

y'know, there's this construction method from the experimental aircraft world, called, "Taylor paper/glass" where forms are made out of heavy duty craft paper, and then glassed. I've actually been thinking of doing what you mention for the rear boat-tail on the B-3, simply because I know forming the compound curves in sheet aluminum will be difficult. I'd already done a mockup in posterboard, way back in the summer of '12. just sayin'.

that's only becuase pften the leverage ratio on the pedal is more car foot pedal-like, than motorcycle hand-lever like. Just have to make the pedal ratio numerically higher to spread the clutch engagement point out over the pedal travel.

on my build, I've actually converted the donor motorcycle handlever into a foot pedal.
