I am new to this forum. I am in the process of completing the restoration on a 1958 Devin. This car was known as the Buick Special or the Tashjian Special. I have been able to recover all of the car's original racing history. The car has a 1959 Buick 401 Nailhead engine, a four speed, four link rear end, rack and pinion steering, four wheel disc brakes, and coil over shocks.

Welcome Dan!

I'm very interested in your car. I remember that one as a kid. I knew it as the Tashjian special and learned about nailheads from this and Ivo's work. I would love to hear the history; take as much space as you need to tell it. Where did you get it? Where is it? Photos? Lots of Photos!

Indeed, we would love to see photos and hear any history you'd care to tell us.

I sent an e-mail to the guy who currently owns the Max Balchowski Buick and invited him to stop by and say hi. I hope this was appropriate.

I like nailheads because they are one of the few V8's that you can cram into a locost and still have footroom. Before I die, I will build a 6-71 blown nailhead locost.

Oh yes, please do post photos. I loved those bodies (most put them on their own chassis) as a budding hotrodder back in the day. In something totally coincidental, I saw a TV show last night that dealt with fiberglass bodies of the Devin era including their influence on Harley Earl and his choice of fiberglass for the Corvette. It was basically a visit to these folks:

You may already know about them.

Cheers,

Damn! That front slip angle is way too large and the Ackerman is just a muddle.
