Man this is going to be Locost central with all these local builders. Jaf, I read your build log yesterday, those composite panels look good, almost like stuff I see at work. You don't work for a local airplane co that starts with a" B" do you?

finally got some picts to load of the tear down. The car was partially tore apart by previous owner. He had skidded into a concrete curb and twisted the whole car so it was toast but it started and ran good with only 90,000 on it. I actually drove it on and off the trailer. Now I am having a problem getting the ppf loose from the rear diff. got the rear bolt out but cannot get the fwd one out, any suggestions?

WD40 soaking, heat the top nut until cherry red, allow to cool a bit, then hit it with some more WD40 until it cools all the way down. Heat and spray the lower portion of the bolt also as this corrodes and makes the bolt stubborn to loosen. CAUTION....hot nuts and WD40 = fire. Once cooled use a good 6-side socket, large cheater bar, and generous use of curse words. Repeat as necessary. Don't go torqueing on anything until everything is cooled down. If you spin the top nut in the PPF you'll have bigger issues.

Another good loosening agent is a mixture of lacquer thinner and trans oil. Let it soak a little and it will way outdo WD40. Good luck on the build and definitely get to the gathering if possible. Great time, great bunch of people, and you will see all kinds of different ideas. Too bad I won't be there.

Everyone on the MGE forum swears by a product called Kroil. Supposed to be better than WD40, Liquid Wrench, and PB Blaster put together. These people are often removing 50-year-old rusted bolts.

50/50 acetone and automatic tranny fluid. Multiple tests have been done and they all show it to be the best followed by kroil.

Lot's of great tips guys but now the problem is the nut insert on top has come out so now I guess It comes down to a lot of cutting and cussing.

Best advice I've gotten is heating the head of the [Fatherless Child] bold till nearly red. The expansion of the bolt apparently crushes/breaks the adhesion it had with the hole. First time I tried it I was shocked when the bold which wouldn't move at all came out by hand.

Well, you're on your way to a fun, new adventure! Adventure, addiction...whatever.

You have a great start using a '99 Miata motor...many Miata enthusiasts agree the '99-'00 motors are the way to go! I have a '93 Miata 1.6L in my 7 and I'd love to have an extra 30HP! Keep up with your progress photos!

Good luck : - )

Yo Vlad-
Good to see your driver getting in some practice. He has good hand position, good posture, and I can tell he's making sure the engine (if he had one) isn't overheating by using a good radiator...

Cool picture, save it for the archives!

Co-builder is what it is all about. Check out the video's of my son and I. I believe we have created memories for me and him as long as we live. I am not trying to hijack your thread, but I think it is important to let you know (if you do not already) how important the bond is between father and son.

9 States and 4000 miles in the car my son and I built.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jgXINZauUQc

"He said son hold it still
Keep that beam shining straight
He’d have a 9/16ths in one hand
Working on that Chevrolet
It seemed like every Saturday
Soon as the sun went down
We’d be huddled underneath that hood
Tinkering around
And of all of the great memories I’ve had
The best ones are those nights just me and my dad

He’ll never how much he taught me
Out in that garage
And I guess the stuff that stuck
Was more about life than fixing cars
Cause to this day I still can’t make them run right
But I sure did learn a lot
Just holding the flashlight

He told me a lot of stories
About Grandpa and the war
While he was trying to show me
What a carburator’s for
I learned a couple cuss words
When he skinned his knuckles up
And I found out Momma was the only girl
He ever really loved
Then I asked him about women, he just laughed
Said if we stayed out here all year
We wouldn’t have time enough for that

He’ll never how much he taught me
Out in that garage
And I guess the stuff that stuck
Was more about life than fixing cars
Cause to this day I still can’t make them run right
But I sure did learn a lot
Just holding the flashlight

And to this day I still can’t make them run right
But deep inside I know that it’s alright
Cause I sure
Just holding the flashlight

Thanks Dad"

Yea he is my little helper and the main reason for this project. We originally talked about a Factory Five Roadster about A year ago and he never let up about building a car, so here we are and he loves it as much as I do. He loves to turn a wrench. He gets it from me I guess since I'm an aircraft mech by trade. By the way Guild his name is Daniel also. ps Loved your video.
