Yeah, yeah, I'm guilty of having OGS (Old Glove Syndrome) myself.

The way I finally solve the problem of getting them out of the shop area is when they get demoted down to either: 1) the gloves I put in my Explorer to use at the metal suppliers & salvage yards; or 2) the pair that I use for holding the end of the stock on the horizontal band saw. In the latter case, they eventually get saturated with cutting oil and become useless.

I suppose I could get one last use out of those gloves by using them to start the charcoal briquettes in the barbecue? But, the neighbors would be sure to complain about the smell of that sulfur-based oil burning in the back yard. Maybe I should just continue to throw them out?

Cut out sheet and stitched in the top deck. Cut out a hole for clutch/brake pedal cross shaft removal. Couple of pics.

I think I have about 8 pairs of welding gloves laying around the house. When I was working in Charlotte they made us buy the gloves (me not knowing that was against OSHA) so I would make them last as long as possible. With the new job they buy our gloves for us. I'll wear them for about a month and grab another pair.

Made it out to the shop after lunch today. Scratched a bit, then started to commit fabrication.
Cut out some .063 pieces for the scuttle with the plasma cutter. Easy peasy. The base will be made from 1" sq .063 tube.


Put the wood scuttle buck on the car and proceded to tack up all the steel pieces I had cut.
Just a bunch of pics of scuttle with buck removed.




Then I pulled out the masking tape and had a bit of fun to see the shape of things to come.

In the shop this afternoon. More work on the scuttle.
Measured and cut 1" sq tube for bottom frame of scuttle.


Used plasma cutter to cut a bunch of 1 1/4" .065 strips to put some backbone on the spine of the scuttle. Used the stretcher/shrinker to curve the strips, another tool I wonder how I lived without. No distortion adding these strips to scuttle.



Cut, stretched, test fit and tacked up all the strips. Scuttle is very rigid now.



Due to the fitment and size of the OEM instrument panel I'll be placing it in the center of the dash (like build #1). Next project, rework the OEM wiper assembly and heater to fit the scuttle.

Had some fun in the shop today, it was mock up time. Made some plywood stanchions, a coreplast windshield, and proceeded to fabricate the windshield wiper assembly. I reworked the parts to adapt to the scuttle. I machined the wiper post ends to take the universal wiper arms from Speedway Motors.


Fabbed up mounts for the wiper posts, made some mock ww arms from wood and the resulting video took place.

Nice work on the mock-ups, Perry. I like that your windshield will be tied in to some serious metal. Using a fiberglass scuttle in my own build has been something I'm concerned about in terms of securing it.

It's great to re-use the donor stuff. Stand clear of that lower arm that connects to the motor though.
