I called to schedule the inspection, and they had a cancellation for tomorrow, so I have been busting my rear to get it buttoned up.

Passed inspection, got the title and VIN paperwork in motion!

Just a little bit more red tape and she will be on the road!

Weighed the car using a bathroom scale, some 2x4s, and a 5' chunk of c-channel for a lever. Came out to 845 (52%) on the front, 780 (48%) on the rear, 1,625 lbs total.

Not sure how accurate it is, I will probably still end up going to the truck stop and use a certified scale at some point.

Sometimes, it really is better to be lucky than good. I tried finding information on the internet about connecting a GM style speedo to a Toyota transmission, or a Japanese transmission of any kind. I couldn't find any info at all, so I figured I would find out the hard way how to make it work, and if the drive ratio was anywhere close.

GM Speedos use a 5/8"-11 thread on the back with a 1/16" square drive, like the Speedway gauge set I am using:

The Toyota trans uses an M18 thread with a round drive and a crimped 'paddle' drive, which is common among other Japanese transmissions, including early Miatas:

The speedo cable for the 1979 Toyota Pickup donor utilized a square drive on the speedo end, but has a simple clip hook that hooked into a groove on the back of the speedo:

It turns out, that this hook setup will snap on to the 5/8"-11 thread of a GM speedo and the square drive will spin the speedo!!!

The icing on the cake: the speedo reading is within ~2mph of a cell-phone GPS speed reading!!! That's as good as a factory car!!!!

300 miles on the car now and I have made a couple changes:

1. I replaced the glasspack muffler with a Jones turbo-tube muffler. The glasspack was way too loud for right next to my ear, and it sounded like a rice rocket over 4k which was the dealbreaker. The Jones is the same size and shape as the glass pack, so it didn't require a complete rework of the exhaust. I would recommend this muffler to anyone for a locost application.

2. When I was replacing the muffler, I welded in a fitting for an 02 sensor. I used an inexpensive unit with a bosch wide band O2 sensor and zip tied it to my brooklands temporarily. The wide-band is the ONLY way to tune a carburetor, and has made a huge difference in performance. I have a better chance of reading a crystal ball than reading plugs accurately for all RPM ranges which a lot of people think is good enough.

3. The one-piece hood is a giant air-trap and would cause the engine to run way too hot at speed. At idle, the engine would sit at 180 and then at 60+ it would hit 230. I pulled a dzus fastener on each side of the hood and stuffed a rolled up work glove in on each side to get it home, and the 1/2" gap the glove created dropped the engine 30 degrees. I cut some louvers out of a machine stand panel I had and bolted them to the hood to prevent future issues.

I'll 2nd the the Jones muffler! Better then your typical glass-pack, plus they are avaliable in longer lengths and larger Diameters. I still ended up adding a baffle, in the tail pipe.

Great looking trunk

You might also want to look at adding ducting for the rad.

The rear fenders are, yes. The fronts are from etrailer. Big difference in price.

Can I ask what you paid for them? I assume their aluminum?
