Measurement in book is after they are bent. Oh well, good practice. New proper length ones are made and ready to weld already.

As a new builder. that probably won't be your last boo-boo. We all make them. I found they were great motivators to do better in future, which we all do as we get more experience.

Don't throw the tubes away, however. I promise you that you'll find a good use for the material as you move forward with your build.

Cheers,

Lonnie- I knew this would happen. No problem at all. Thats how we learn. Yeah Im keeping all my scrap/short pieces, can use it to practice welding if nothing else.

You got the right attitude, John. Learn by doing (it wrong the first time). We're all in there with ya.

John,
the nice part about being a builder, is the collection that you accumulate, for future builds. Not only have I got a bin full of "I cut it twice, and it is still too short" pieces, but also over-ordered or "hey, that might work, but didn't" parts, that can be saved for a future project.
In the greater scheme of things, steel is your least expense, but the most useful for being on hand. Recognize that carefully crafted brace for my winch?

I use a piece of copper flashing on a stick to keep the table from burning.

I bought a piece of concrete backer board to use as a fireproof surface when I was some braces onto an Ikea bed frame. I think it was about $12 for a 3 x 6 ft 1/4 inch thick piece. The little splatter balls burn themselves into the surface but are easily removed.

A little progress today after work. Tacked up the front frame. Version 2 turned out way better.

Been away from the project for a couple weeks. But back at it now. Tacked in the diagonal braces, fwd braces and seat back braces. In doing the fwd braces I realized I put in BR7 and U1 and 2 in at 2009.5mm instead of 2095mm. Oh well, was easy to cut out and put in proper place. Ready to move frame forward and start on rear section.

You know what I really like about this forum? That we are willing to show the mistakes we make; you really don't see that elsewhere. The project is looking great, all the best with it.

I will post all of my mistakes (hopefully wont be to many :-/ ) so maybe it will help others. There is nothing to be gained from keeping it to yourself. Any mistake can be corrected. Also Im trying to post many pics in hopes others will point out anything Im doing wrong.
