Well... off to a new start. traded off the 95 Mustang that I was looking to base a build on am now gathering the bits for the new build.

Chassis: 442 chassis with ford live axle. 90% completed
Engine:
Was looking at 2.0 Liter Zetecs and came across an 2.0 liter Ecoboost engine from a 2015 Ford Focus St with 2500 miles on it. Could not pass it up, so the plans changed. Got the engine and am mating it to a Miata 6 spd trans from a 2008.

For engine management got the Ford Performance wiring harness and ECU ( with flyby wire gas pedal assembly ) Right now waiting for the N/S oil-pan set to be delivered so I can mount and determine final engine mount arrangement.

Will be using OBDI adaptor and Android tablet for main gauge layout.

Will post some pics in the coming days, with the winter here in Minnesota I'm planning to have project on the road mid summer.

Gary

Gary, just curious. Street car or track? I contemplated this very scenario, but in NJ I would have to have had ALL of the OBDII functional. And the Ecoboost engines are for the most part still in the stratosphere. You scored one hell of a deal! I'll be following this one closely. Good luck!

Gotta have a goal :)

Actually want to autocross a few events with it this summer. Should be a fun ride.

Making some progress on the build finally. Work and kids schooling really cut into project time.
Have pics at link below.
http://lotus.minnesotacarbuild.com/

Now have 95% of the parts and equipment in shop.

Fabricating motor mounts for the Ecoboost 2.0 and Miata 6spd.
Pedal box with flyby wire mods ready to mount to chassis.
After pedal box and motor mounts are done will be sealing and painting the frame.
Decided to use factory fuel pump, and mount it into aluminum fuel cell, so there is no issue with fuel pressure.
Local sign company has aluminum sheeting only 10 miles from my house and will deliver for free.
Received my vinyl to cover the body work, going with Nardi flat grey, Flat Black and Fluor Yellow for accents.
Flat Black headlight buckets arrived as well as the combo 7" neon lights with built in DRL and turn signals.

Took a scan on the nosecone and I am making some changes to shape and scaling it to fit chassis. Will be 3d printing new cone in 6 pieces, joining and wrapping in vinyl.

Looks good so far. My ti-vct uses the same pedal, you've definitely given me some ideas. I actually took one of the return springs out of the pedal since the wilwood pedals I am using have a spring as well. For the fuel pump; do you know the stock pump will operate in continuous mode? A fuel pressure regulator still needs to be added according to the ford documentation since Ford racing pcm switches to a return system vs return less in the focus.

Yeah I can never figure out why people doom themselves to failure before they even start on something that was supposed to be fun. With the looming deadline though, just imagine the long hours, rushing to meet a self-imposed deadline which turns it into a grueling job - sounds like fun! Virtually everyone blows right through their "deadlines", it's just that most don't publicly set a date.

Yeah it will be a summer in 201X

If I did not have a goal I'd either be further behind or right on track depending upon how you look at it.

I have made a visit to the DMV to discuss the titling process, have a box of receipts I need to get organized for that task when the time comes.

It is kind of nice to finally knock a few tasks off of the to do list. Now that the Autocross guys know whats in the works I have a list of people whom want a test drive during our test and tune days. I have not decided how serious I am going to be with the autocross events and this vehicle. Goal was not to make a class beater, but a fun car I always wanted.

Looks good Gary, good luck with it.

Don't worry about weighing stuff too much, will only disturb your sleep, I had a Range Rover Evoque for a week last year and the 2.0 Ecoboost sent that 3700lbs down the road damn hard so a few pounds here and there on a Locost, well, you just ain't going to notice.

Hi, good to see more action around here. I live in Monticello and work in Lakeville, so you're right across my path. ;-)

Have to check out your project some time.
