Hello, I am Mark, and I am an addict. 4-5 years ago I stumbled across this site and I will not be able to shake it until I build one of these things. Since then I bought 3 books for "inspiration". Build your own Sports Car, Gibbs; How to Build a Cheap Sports Car, Tanner; and Build your own Sports Car 2nd edition, Champion.

I still have a bunch of questions and unknowns about, well, everything. Goals are a FUN street car that I can autocross when I am not racing my other toys.

Here we go!

This is what I have so far

Some cut steel
A pair of Izusu T5's for the ecotec 1.4T If I choose that engine
A Miata 6 speed, if I choose an NA ecotec frankenstein setup
A dana 30 rear axle out of a volvo 242
Not pictured are miata spindles for the front end.

This pretty much sums up the quality of help you'll get here.

They're having an open track day. Me and the Slotus are going on Sunday, so I can try to to scare the sh!t outta my-own-self. Earl is coming down with a Mustang he's gonna flail un-mercifully. Sounds like a good time.

If you got the free time, come on out and visit... And check tire pressures and torque the lugs and make sure the oil level is right and... Oops, did I say that last part out loud? Sorry... Come on out and visit!

So things have been a little slow here. Too many projects, to little time.

My shed looks like a war zone. Bought a 2.4 ecotec LE5 last week and stripped it today. I am going to initially build the car NA le5 with a hybrid of parts.

I have tried to turn the block photo but computers dont like me. Block looks great and is ready to go to the sauna.

Its been a while. Trying to decide which path to take, decisions decisions. I am going to go full on D-Mod build. If I want a street car later I will just build another. Trans and rear end are already in inventory. I just need to purchase a GM 1.4 engine. I can get some low mileage encore/trax ones really close to my house for cheap monies.

I did buy a new piece of equipment a few weeks ago. Already making parts for the racecar in preparation for NASA championships at COTA in 2 weeks. Now I will be able to make or modify anything to get the locost on the road. I am excited for this winter.

Engine came out of a 2016 encore. Certificate of destruction matched the dash at 3817 miles. After tearing it apart last night I believe the milage is correct.

Intake looks great on there. Can’t wait to finish it. The next decision I need to make is drysump or no drysump?

That is correct. It is mounted to the bottom portion of their intake as well. I will be finishing the intake to put the throttle body where fits best.
