After several years of driving the car, Tad decided that he wanted to switch the intercooler from air-water to air-air and asked for my help to design and build it. Of course I agreed to help him.
The first item needed was to get the throttle body relocated from the back of the engine to the front. There's a fabricated aluminum manifold made for the Ecotec 1.4 turbo by RacerX. Tad asked them if they could simply flop the plenum 180 degrees before welding all the pieces together. They agreed to make one that way. With it bolted in-place, we had to make a couple of further changes. The top edge needed to be shaved slightly for hood clearance and the "bend" for the throttle body mount had to be cut off and rotated 180 degrees to get it pointed forward to be best positioned for the plumbing from the intercooler. The intercooler is one of those used on an Audi A4 2.7 L V6. Then the upper rad plumbing was switched to the other side of the engine. With plumbing, ducting and heat shielding done, the mission has been completed.
