Hi Everyone,
Dave here!
54 years old, always wanted to own a 1960's Lotus 7 s2, no chance!!! lol
So,
with that, the dream is to try and build a replica.
I haven't a clue, never built a car, but I'd like to try.

I am purchasing a Ford Zero GBS kit here in Scotland Uk. I am having the frame rear added too in order to get the right frame as an s2. The rear top will be removed as well.

I have in mind to fit an MGB, MGB GT, works in the frame I.E. it will be a donor car.
I have sourced original style fittings where I can (Lucas). Also original style seating etc.
Can someone advise if the MGB Axel will fit?
And will the front hub swivel carrier off a MGB fit the wish bones etc?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Hello Dave,

Welcome. We've had several nice MGB-based builds that I'm aware of in recent years. Here are two of them. The first one is all MGB donor, but the second is partially so as I recall:

I also remember a very nice MGB-based build from a fellow in Santa Barbara, California, but I was unable to locate his build log. Perhaps someone else will have that information for you.

Welcome. For MG based builds you might also look on the UK based Locost Builders forum. Lots of good info there too. Start a build log so we can track your progress. Also be sure to put your location avatar so everyone will know where you are at. Russ

Welcome to the forum! The B rear axle should work just fine though the "tube" type is a bit heavy, if you can find a "banjo" axle it might save a bit of weight. The front uprights will cause you some grief as they have trunnions top and bottom, meaning in order to set the caster the suspension pick-up points on the frame have to be rotated about the centerline of the axle when you're looking at the car in elevation (from the side). I do know that you can mess around with bearing sizes and fit Corolla AE86 hubs to the Cortina Mk 3 uprights (it keeps the bolt pattern the same as the rear axle), but finding Cortina bits seems to be difficult these days.

Also, the B-series motor is quite tall which will either require a bonnet bulge or will require a taller bonnet.

Welcome to the forum! I'm looking forward to seeing your progress. Keep us posted, and don't forget the pictures.

I owned and raced and MGB for a couple of decades. Love those cars. An MGB would make an interesting donor, and the technology would be "period correct" for a Se7en. How-some-ever-ly, those front uprights with the trunnions and the lever arm shocks are maybe a little bit TOO much in the period correct department. If you can source some other uprights and go to coilovers, you'll be way happier than trying to make the lever arms and such work for you.

The B motor is kind of tall, but it can work, see Nick47's build log. One thing I can say about the MGB is that the transmission was damned tough, it should last forever in a lightweight Se7en. The tube-type axle is a bit heavy, like has been said. Banjo type might save you a few pounds/kilograms.
