Champion's book shows the headlight mount coming right off the upper chassis rail, but I personally like the bug-eye look of a classic lotus 7. I didn't consult the all-knowing Google image bank but I think this is how they do it. - It works for me anyway. The tripod is detachable if I want to change them or remove them for racing some time.
Also posted below is how it will look with my new LED turn signals.

These are what I have ordered for the rear fenders. I plan on "Frenching" them in. They are a little smaller than I anticipated. I need to consult the DOT books and make sure there isn't a size requirement.

Also my replacement motor mounts came today. This was a fairly expensive unanticipated expense, well over $100 after shipping and handling. Sheesh! The old ones were fatigue cracked all the way through! I can't believe the engine didn't just wobble right out of the miata engine bay. I guess that's one more reason to love the Mazda PPF design, 'cuz I'm pretty sure that's all that was keeping the mill in!

I also got the lower front shock mounts roughed out. They'll actually be a little higher than shown here once finally mounted.
This inboard shock thing is proving to be pandoras box. Everytime I think I've got something solved it leads to yet another problem. It looks like this time it will be the upper radiator hose. I'll have to beg/steal/borrow/rent a tig and reconfigure the thermostat housing to come straight out between the shocks.

I'm not sure what that is but it doesn't sound natural. :P

Frenching is a term used by hotrod builders to describe recessed mounting of lights (mainly headlights when speaking of hotrods) when the lense is recessed into the panel it's mounted to as opposed to normal mounting when the trim ring that goes around the light flushed with the panel and the lense sticking slightly out.

See example here - http://www.collectorcarbuff.com/collect ... custom.jpg

I got them here:

http://www.customclassic.com/

http://www.customclassic.com/products/l ... lights.htm

They were very reasonably priced. - Around 10 bucks a lens IIRC.

The guy was really nice. He was out of stock when I ordered so it took a while but he took the time to call me several times and give me an update. They specialize in 'mini trucks' (ick!) but they have a lot of other stuff like these plain round lenses, Caddy LED lights and LED strips.

Note that if you sign up for the newsletter they send you a discount code for your first order of 10% or so. -Not a huge discount but at least it covers shipping.

Beware Chet... One of the categories is called "Frenchie's" I'm not sure you can handle it...

Rust Bucket, what sort of mechanical and electrical attachments do those 2" lights have? Can you take a pic of the back? I'm thinking of using one as an "alarm" light on the dash of a racecar.

I will take a pic when I get home this eve.
There are two female pin connectors on the back. It can mount flush if you drilled a couple small clearance holes in your dash.
The lights are supplied with an auxillary pig tail that the vendor swears will turn it into a dual filiment functionality of stop/turn/tail. I still have my doubts.

I'm sure the lights would work great as an On/Off with a simple 'hot' and 'ground' connection.

Sorry ModernBeat I had to work until O-Dark-Thirty last night and didn't get the chance to take some pics for you.
Here are a couple snap shots from the back. It's hard to tell from the pictures, but there is a round hub on the back with ears so if you cut the clearance hole the right size with some oblong sides you can push and twist it into place. I'd guess the is an actual mounting bracket available from the manufacturer though I didn't see it on this particular distributors website.
There is also a shot of the pig tails. The auxiluary pigtail looks awefully bumpy under that shrink wrap so I guess it is possible there may be the right combo of resistors and magic powder to make it function as a dual filament. I'll keep y'all posted after I finally put juice to them.

I also did some more work on what will become the dash. I like the look of curves in the dash above the passenger compartments, and if I end up with the stock miata seats I'll need clearance to prevent knee-knocking.
Here's the mod I came up with. (obviously not completely done yet.)
