Finding the 7.5 LSD was easy. Popular pieces that a lot of guys don't want in their cars because the bigger and more manly 8.8" unit impresses their friends more.

What I'm lusting after are those cool aluminum bushings to mount the front of the diff. Are they something Blackbird Fabrication would like to make more of? (hint, hint)

I've got one of those "more manly" ( :?: He said it!) 8.8 IRS units. The aluminum bushings can be had for 90 to 100 bucks from various sources. (I was looking at them today.) If they were available from Blackbird Fabworx, I'd much rather keep my money "in the family" so to speak.

Moti, is this possible?

It's possible that I'll be offering them at some point, but not too soon since I'm quite busy doing other things like rollcages and such... I barely have time to work on my locost.
BTW when I was looking to buy those bushings myself (quite a while ago) I couldn't find any.

So the 7.5 is out of a v6 car right? I assume the 8.8's are for the more manly v8's. Now what about a 7 inch try to find one of those's. I like the idea of a smaller ring gear it has to be lighter and less parasitic. Did any 7.5's come with an ally housing other then the Quaife I wonder?

Yo, Moti-
I wasn't gonna "undercut" ya, if you wanted to build them for us/me... But if you're busy, that's a good thing! So, here's a link to the allie bushings, from Kenny Brown: http://store.kennybrown.com/product/rear-suspension/aluminum-differential-bushings for anybody that wants 'em.

Not to take Moti's build thread off topic and undercut Kenny Brown at the same time, but I've found aluminum differential bushings at VPM for cheaper. http://www.vintageperformancemotorcars. ... ialkit.htm

edit: that direct link removes the navigation bar from the left side. The home page is www.vintageperformancemotorcars.com

And since I'm replying to his thread anyway, I was one of those builders that had hard mounted the diff at the rear and used soft bushings at the front. When he suggested to soft mount the rear to me, I searched around and found that Factory Five hard mounts the rear of the diff in their Cobra replica, and people who have used bushings in the front have indeed broken diff covers. So he's not making things up.

Ha!
Didn't know about the FFRs, I simply went with logic - the diff wants to twist on the front mounting ears and the rubber bushings allow this twist.
If the rear cover was mounted solid at the same time the only way for it to twist with the front will be to break and with that cover being made out of aluminum it will surely do that...

No, the 7.5 pumpkins are all cast iron, only the rear cover is aluminum.
FWIW, I recall reading somewhere that the 7.5 pumpkin and the aluminum 8.8 weigh about the same despite the dimensional difference.
However, I'd imagine that packaging-wise the 7.5 is preferrable for a locost, leaving more room for a gas tank or trunk above it.

Yeah I've read that somewhere too. I'd like to have the smaller ring gear though. Does anyone know if the Sierra/Merkur's 7 inch was ally?

Those Konis look sweet.

I'm not extremely familiar with the line - custom damping?

The Koni 2822 are four way adjustable which are only custom built, there's no "generic" or production line version.
The trick I needed to pull was to find shocks that had enough travel for my car, and I got lucky finding my set without the need to purchase new bodies or shafts ($$$).
My shocks were all valved and tuned on a Roehrig shock dyno to the specs of my suspension by my buddy Steven who's a trained Koni shock tech (tech?! more like Wiz!).
It helps having friends that know stuff
