Things are different for me now, I do this for living.
I am far better equipped than your average or not so average home builder (which I started my build as), have years of additional experience under my belt and the room to put it together.
I will certainly build another one 8)

It is with great sadness that I'm looking to put this car up for sale.
Been spread too thin for too long and need to concentrate my efforts into my other projects.
I'm not even entirely sure what to sell this car for, I know I'll be taking a huge loss on it, but I'd like to at least have the cost of the parts returned, which will be extremely hard on some of the items like the super high dollar set of coil overs which will cost about $9K or so to replicate.
Yes, ouch :?
Otherwise I'll sell it in parts which kinda sucks but it is what it is...

This car was built to go racing with, and as those of you who have followed the build thread surely know, it has more time put into the thought process and fabrication than many other builds.
What this car would need to be completed is the following -
Fuel sys (no pump, filter or lines currently)
Brake sys hard lines and a fresh set of pads
Wiring, much of it is included with the R1 engine, but no chassis wiring
Body work
Seat / harness combo, I am a dealer so I can definitely set you up with the right stuff..
Fresh race rubber :)

List of items that the car is built around, along with costs -

Locost frame w/ 10 point SCCA / NASA legal cage, highly adjustable suspension, narrowed Miata steering rack, Miata uprights and brakes, pushrod front suspension - $3500
Used 2005 R1 (5VY) engine - $1500
Brand new gauge cluster for 2005 R1 - $250
Custom R1 equal length tuned header / exhaust - $500
ITG "sausage" filter JC40 round top, not the regular squared style - $250-ish?
Custom machined and anodized mechanical paddle shifter setup, incomplete as is but still worth at least $200
Brand new QA1 rod ends for suspension - Can't remember exact cost, but something like $350-ish?
Brand new Ford Racing LSD, professionally built with 3.27 gears - $450
Brand new machined Aluminum diff bushings - $90
Brand new Fuel Safe 8 gallon FT3 rated fuel cell - $630
Brand new Sparco steering wheel, Demon Tweeks QR welded to Miata steering column - $400
Brand new Civic aluminum rad with Spal high flow curved blade fan - $220
Brand new set of Lenso / Exospeed wheels, 13x7.5 and 8 Lbs a pop - $540
Used Caterham nose cone - $175
Brand new Tilton clutch / brake pedal box, twin masters, reservoirs and cable - can't remember exact cost but IIRC $600-ish altogether

Total cost of the above - $9655 ($6155 in parts alone)

And the most bitter peel -
Custom professionally built set of Koni 2822 4-way coil overs (hi-lo speed bump and rebound), new Hyperco / Eibach springs - $9K to replicate.
Will sell for a reasonable offer or just keep them for another project, if the right offer comes along for the car w/ the coil overs I will let them go.
Boy is that peel hard to swallow!

Other pieces the car is going to come with - cooling sys hard lines, steelies to roll the car around bunch of other stuff I can't even remember at this point but will include...
Also, I can have the frame and suspension powder coated for you if you wish, at an additional cost of course.

It sucks but I'm just not getting to it.. this thing won't take much to be completed, someone else is going to have a riot driving this thing.
Let me know what you guys think.

Moti, I sent the link of the car to a friend whos been thinking its time to have a dedicated track car. His mustang is too much of a pig and I just beat his time at Buttonwillow last weekend so he's thinking its time to have the real deal track toy.

Obviously this is still a work in process, but what does it need to be completed? Doesnt seem like its too far off, and I dont have the time to go through your entire thread right now. Is it really as little as getting fuel to the motor and the brakes to stop it?

Thanks for sharing.
If he wants a track car with less building required I'm also selling my race Miata as a roller.
With the availability of swap kits like the one for a Honda K24 swap into a Miata available from the guys at KMiata.com, that car can be made to go REALLY fast.
The chassis alone has about $20K worth of work done to it...
Here's a link if he wants to take a look -

Locost sold to a gentleman from Norcal, getting picked up next week, Miata still available.
Hopefully the project will get a new life and I might even catch a glimpse of it at the track every now and again.
Meanwhile I'll keep updating you guys on our progress with Garm's N1000RR mid engine madness project, which as of yesterday has a steering system!

I saw on fb yesterday one of my local car friends liked your Miata rear spoiler. He had no idea who Blackbird Fabworx was, just thought the spoiler was awesome.

Ha, that's cool!
There's an annual all-Miata event @ Laguna Seca, and in the first year I introduced the spoilers (the event was a few months after) I saw maybe 3-4 of them on cars in the paddock.
The next year there were probably 50-60 of them on cars.
Last year you couldn't walk around the paddock without seeing them all around you... It's a great product that costs very little but does a lot

And just like that, she's gone.
It was a fun project, I learned a lot at the beginning, back in 2006, made a bunch of new friends in the 7 community - especially in this forum!
Then I had my first child, then came the house and a second child after that.
Then I started Blackbird Fabworx and needed a car to showcase what we do, building a Miata was a quicker way to be up and running and get on track.
The seven sat, collecting dust.
Every time I looked at it I couldn't help thinking I could do so much better with 11 years of extra knowledge under my belt.
I lost the desire to finish it years ago, but kept battling that feeling , ultimately unsuccessfully.
It was time to move it on to someone that will be excited about it and finish it.

My hopes are that the new owner will get it done and drive the s--t out of it, as it deserves to be driven.
Didn't think it will feel that way, but now I'm a bit sad that it's gone.

That's okay, I'm going to drive Morpheus all weekend at SMMR, so there's that.

Thank you all for reading and participating over the years
