Hey ho..., Chuck...
As you suggested, I got myself a comfy chair and spent a couple of days going through this detailed, informative and entertaining thread. It was like trawling for Atlantic cod, and diving for pearls - both are compliments... Many thanks.
I have one outstanding question - the others were mostly answered by subsequent posts:
For someone who appreciates such neat and polished work, how on earth did your WorkMate get into such an appalling state... :roll:
Hope you will continue to offer your gems on my own pages...

MangPong, Thanks for stopping in. And for saying such kind words. I'll try to respond.

As far as the WorkMate goes, it get used. It gets used a lot. What more can I say? And I got it at a garage sale so it was in well-used condition when I got it. I think it is the original design so it is very old. However, it is but one example of a bigger personal issue that I have. Evidently the shiny bits that I was showing in the pics must have blinded your eyes so you didn't see. If you look beyond the foreground in almost any of my pictures, you will see the real me. My workspace is an embarrassment to say the least. Even more-so while I'm in the middle of a task, any task. At any given time, I will have a minimum of 2 different jobs going on in my garage space. It never gets to the clean state. I don't have enough room to store everything neatly. I generally get things picked up abut 50% of the way before I get started on the next task/project. It is a character flaw of mine that I have learned to accept.

As for the word "honey-do", I don't know if you are trying to be sarcastic, or really don't know. I'll assume that you are really not knowing. Based on your question I'll guess that you are not married, or not married for long. Those of us who are married (We have been married for 44 years now), we know the term, and learned it quickly. It has to do with the 2 primary rules of marriage. Rule number no 1: If mama's not happy, nobody's happy. Rule number 2: See rule number 1.. So getting back to honey-do, honey-do's are those jobs that your spouse mentions need being done. And when you forget, they need to be done the first moment she reminds you that you forgot. Doing that is what allows us to have time for our silly little hobbies.

Hi Chuck - thanks for the speedy response, which has been amazing me of late when you guys all have other lives to deal with as well. I bought my WorkMate about 35 years ago and, from about ten feet, it looks almost new - I guess I'm not doing enough work...!
I always check backgrounds (occupational training) and I've seen some unbelievable squalor in which some folk are able to work. Yours just looks busy...
Incidentally... I'm not greatly noted for my sarcasm so I thank you for the benefit of the doubt - and the explanation of 'honey-dos'...
I'm far too old not to have been married for long, but now I get it. In fact I have a development of your two rules: 1, "If mama's not happy, nobody's happy"... and 2, "If nobody's happy, contemplate divorce"... This isn't entirely cynical because I feel the 'honey-dos' need to be performed before anyone can become unhappy. It is very difficult to pull back...
I seem to have spent much of my adult life dealing with the honey, and have thus had no time for the "silly little hobbies" - now, after two marriages and two divorces I'm dedicating my dotage to this hobby - and god help all who sail in her...

At the moment I am trying to collect some bitz together and also to find somewhere to start the build. I either have to find a bigger house, with a garage or space to build one... or find somewhere to rent to create a workshop. I have given myself till the end of June to sort out the premises issue so... I guess by Christmas then... :lol:

Thanks for everything - hope it's warmer up there at the moment. I was in Chicago in January, 1986 - the coldest time of my life - worse than Iceland and Greenland together... and the Twin Cities. I was late for dinner with colleagues one evening, after washing my hair, stepped out of the hotel door... and my damp hair froze to my skull, before I took three paces...! And I never worked out what happened to my eardrums. I vowed never again to live where you need scarves & gloves... :cry:

Very informative, as I'm considering a 13B Locost that's partially complete & a few hours away.

Will definitely be bouncing back in here for reference if I move forward on it.

All that aside JAMADOR, anything that I can help with, I certainly will try, however I can. I am not a rotary specialist, by any means. But I learned a little along the way which is why I did my build with it. They always intrigued me. The 13B builds are unique. IMO, they are somewhere between a BEC and a CEC in driving experience. Is the car you are thinking about buying, Geauxkart's?

It is, just getting the funding sorted on my end & hoping he doesn't get it sold before then.

He's only about 4-5 hours east of me, so doable in a day trip.

I've driven multiple RX7s in the past & enjoyed the cars, the idea of a 13B in something this light/simple is intriguing, and I need a project, since the motorcycles are gone.

JAMADOR, I was getting around 20 MPG regardless of whether I was driving local roads or the highway. I ran thru all kinds of estimations and calculations. My mileage seemed to be inline with what I was expecting. IIRC, the Lotus Seven had a Cd of around 0.7! Not a slippery shape for highway driving.

Thanks, even with a non-ideal cD, I'd have thought the extra lightness would've returned slightly better mileage.

Mileage is funny. For city driving, weight has the largest portion of effect. It doesn't help any when you are driving a legal slot car from stoplight to stoplight. For highway driving, The biggest portion is aero. Weight has a difference has a much lesser effect.

From somewhere on the interweb, My '91 RX7 donor:

I don't think that 20mpg all around was too bad considering. The 13B engines were light and have a wonderful revving capability. With a low torque, high RPMs is where the HP is made. They are light engines for the HP (in their time). Class leading MPG was never their strong point. Many other donors are much better for MPG. Their downside is that they have a very different driving experience.

I just noticed that on Sun Nov 25, 2018, I made my 1st post on this build. At that time, I said:
