The Tube Snake Boogie..

I've honestly been dreading this part of the build; the exhaust. For me it's slow, tedious work, but of course it's necessary. This motor is a V4, and copying what Honda did with their exhaust, I'm going with long primaries, and a 4-2-1 design. The exhaust will run 1.25, to 1.5, to 1.75, through either a selectable 'open dump,' or through the 2 Brothers silencer, and then finally out a 15" section of tailpipe (post silencer). For clearance reasons, I don't want to run the exhaust under the punt to get to the rear of the car, so I'm having it dump out through the punt up next to the motor- this may be a mistake, and is certainly not ideal, but it's the same result that Berkeley arrived at back in the day as they struggled with the same issue. I guess it just means I'll have to drive extra fast so as to outrun the exhaust

So the challenge is as always, how to make things fit.. I started out with the driver's side... In a perfect world my primaries would all be the same length, but the world is full of compromises, so alas, these primaries will not all be the same length..

June 25-26, 2020 (As of today -6-27-20- the build is now back in real time)

The easiest way to get the 1.25" pieces was to just cut up the OEM header, which is exactly what I did.. The trick now is to use only exactly the bends needed, and don't run out of bends before you're finished

All is going well, if not slow so far.. the build is back in real time now, so maybe this weekend (6-27/28) I'll finish the exhaust.. Later on I'll wrap at least the primaries- it makes a HUGE difference in the heat emitted in those areas.. maybe if I want to get really fancy I'll go the ceramic coated route.. we'll see..

Great progress..

I think you'll find your prep for paint is more than adequate. Naval jelly is basically thixotropic phosphoric acid, and converts the rust and base metal to a iron phosphate. This is a highly bondable surface. Having a little rust in place first seems to improve the bond, provided the white residue is wire brushed off.

Looking forward to your startup and drive videos! Especially with the header dump valve.

Every day I have to drag my parts and extra junk out onto the driveway to allow more room to work in the garage... So I went into the house Saturday morning for a minute to get something, and when I came out, some guy was digging through my bins looking for garage sale treasure  ..He was a nice enough guy, and certainly it was an honest mistake (several neighbors were having garage sales), but it took a bit of convincing to help him understand that none of my treasures are for sale...

My wife thinks this is hilarious.. she hates when I drag all of my junk outside and make 'her' house look bad.. Now, whenever she comes or goes, she pretends to be looking for something to buy from the bins... she'll hold something up and say "How much for this?! Ha ha ha ha ha!!"

Over to the passenger side exhaust..

All was going well putting the puzzle together on this side, but little did I know that that last taller tube was going to bite me in the butt
