This may interest you guys, using the Solstice arms and uprights but with Corvette brake setup...

http://ls1tech.com/forums/suspension-br ... dle-1.html

Accusumps are great but as mentioned, don't be lazy, only use manual valve and on a build like this there shouldn't be an issue of running a large size.

Ok so.... alot has changed on the car. I'm no longer using a v8!. I decided to go with the EJ20t Subaru STI motor and trans. I've already done research on this and its all good. THey sell a block off kit for the rear drive in the trans. Cable shift is already made for the car so its looking pretty good. Plus I can get a really nice motor and trans with axles and other stuff for only 7 Grand

Here are some pics of the progress so far.

Again dont mind the seat... its not real lol... just for looks and measurements. The cage was built around the Kirkey seat.

Since you're cutting metal, care if we move this to the Build Log section?

Any reason for having two tubes by your knees instead of running the square tube into the round cage tube?

Yes let's move it over.

I was going to gusset the round tube to the square tube. I'm still scratching my head. I prefer to work with square tube where the suspension will mount. And the NASA ccr rules say each point of the 6 points must attach to the floor. I don't want to leave any room for question. Even though its a tube chassis, i feel more comfortable going to the floor. If anything I'll remove the vertical square tubes

Thanks

Yes i'm a little sad i'm not going with the V8. I cant get my head around the transaxle price tag. I cant go the G50 route again. I've had one in my Ultima and it doesnt work for me. The Ricardo or Hewland boxes are out of my price range. Until I can afford it i'm going with the Subaru. I'm looking at 350whp stock motor and stock turbo. Just a tune. Then I can always get more. Plus the CG of the Boxer drive train is amazing. The little subi motor sounds pretty cool too.

That subi motor is going to be awesome! 400hp+ is pretty simple to get out of those things. Sweet build too so far. I wish i had your welding skills :x

You can build the most awesome thing in the world but at some point, an 80yr old man in a crx is probably going kick your butt on the track... don't ask me how I know.

The Subies do break at those levels (the engines, not the boxes).

You wouldn't consider transaxle? If I was in the States I would sure as hell be chasing up a Chrysler 4T over all the others.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dodge_SRT-4

Pretty impressive figures and 11" discs and 17" wheels from a donor..

Power: SAE 215 hp (160 kW) (2003 model)
SAE 230 hp (170 kW) (2004-2005 models)[5][6][7] In 2004, the SRT-4 received a power increase, with larger fuel injectors and a recalibrated engine computer.[8]
Manufacturer's specification when the SRT-4 was released was 230 hp (170 kW). However, several independent tests have produced results indicating that the SRT-4 produces more power than the manufacturer claims. The estimated flywheel power is to be around 265 hp (198 kW).[9][10][11][12]
Torque: 245 lb·ft (332 N·m) @ 3200-4200 rpm (2003 model)
250 lb·ft (339 N·m) @ 2400-4400 rpm (2004-2005 models)
0-60 mph (97 km/h) time: 5.3 seconds[13]
Rev Limiter/Redline: 6240
¼ mile (400 m) time: 13.8 seconds
¼ mile speed: 103 mph (166 km/h)
Top speed: Car and Driver magazine achieved a maximum speed of 153 mph (246 km/h).[13]

Yes I'm familiar with the SRT-4 motor, its a great powerful little motor. The only cons I can think of right off the bat.

1. I believe its an iron block
2. The motor sits sideways so it uses a FWD trans, this is not a problem in the rear, but it causes a huge imbalance of weight. The motor and trans literally sit on top of the rear axles. It causes a 70/30 weight distribution or close to it. I'm trying for 60/40. If I were to go with a sideways inline 4 motor, I'd go with the Evolution 4g63. I've owned a raced an evo with just about 500whp for a full season. Great motor but it suffers from the same issue. Too much weight over the rear axles and the inline 4's sit really really high. If you look at the builds on exocars.net using the 4g63 in the rear, the motors sit as high as the drivers head!... Since i'm building a race/prototype style car I need mass centralization and my CG as low as possible. WIth the Subi motor/trans my CG will be near the lug nuts!!! 8)

Found this little gem of a video. This dude is doing the exact same thing as me but he obviously has a sweet body for the race car. Mine will be open cockpit and aluminum body panels all riveted.

Cool video

There is a guy somewhere in central Pa that built a single seat open wheel formula car with a twin turbo Sti motor. I saw it at the Brodart autocross in Williamsport. Ill ask around and see if i can find anything about it.

That looks better. Trial and error is how you do this. Keep at it.
