You may find a hat to do the job here and then select a Wilwood rotor to use with salvage calipers, if a salvage rotor with enough hat id and offset cannot be found:

Yellow transaxle has a summers brothers kit but they’ve been out of business for a long time.

Here is a diff that appears to be based on the vw transaxle:

You might use deep hat, slip on, salvage rotors and calipers, with the hats inboard and modify or purchase stub flanges. The problem is clearance to the starter and bell keep the rotor od down to about 6 or 7 inches. The axles could be taken apart to mount the rotor under the bolt heads for a larger rotor, but I think it would be damaging to the cv, as the brake torque and heat would be distorting the cv housing.

very useful, thanks.

the starter should not be a problem as it will mount on the adapter and be on the engine side.

having discussed the uprights with Graham Early, he said he made his own, which looks to be the way out of the problem, i will dig out the vw shafts and hubs over the weekend and a transmission. i have a dimentional drawing of a hewland which uses the vw case, so i will start some drawings to lay it all out and work from.

unlike most, i still use a pencil and a drawing board, no 3D modeling here, this is how i was taught and i can visualize things much better in third angle on paper, technology does run to a clutch pencil and a caLculator though.

i bet all you young guys are laughing at this old fart now.

Using the computer to do the 3D drawing is very time consuming. It's really only good for it's other benefits. When I started out even computer companies had drafting departments.

I do it to help make it easier for other people to get started on a locost project. At some point if the models for the parts already exist it does become easier. There is a model of a Hewland MK9 with inboard disk brakes in my Car9 project, but it isn't very good. It turns out to be a lot of work to make good models. With pencil and paper you can just focus on the important parts and dimensions can be labeled and not scaled more or better then you need.
