So I finally got back to it. Shifter and some shift linkage parts were installed. Shifter tokk longer than expected. Very tight fit, and clearances had to be just right. I's in pretty solidly now (very sturdy). I am happy with the outcome. Shift linkage cables should be on ther way soon. A cardboard mockup for one of the shift linkage braces yet to be made is shown in one of the pics. Front & rear sways were painted up and put in place. And I've been playing around with the console. The orignial fabricator (Pook) had provided an old beat up spare one that i could practice on. Obviously I'll be doing some adjusting when I do the final.

Having fun now......

Made some additonal progress this week. Yeah! I ran a proposed route for the throttle cable using on old printer extension cord (no major bends). Will order a Lokar throttle cable tomorrow (11ft worth). Made some carbon fiber wrapped covers for the tunnel chase. And installed a turns signal stalk, complete with turn signal, horn & lights (had to grind down some plastic to make it fit my 1" bar). Am starting to feel good about this....

I guess you turned the carb around backwards for better throttle cable routing, so the fuel line is coming off toward the rear. The line could be a lot shorter by either bending it around the carb on the intake then dropping it down the right front to the engine driven fuel pump. A elbow on the carb is another option.

The way the line is routed now, it will bend back and forth from the engine and transaxle rocking on their mounts, eventually cracking. Another issue is routing it through the hole in the block where it can rub and wear through. If you want to rout it this way, don't hang any part of it from the frame. Make a bracket that picks up two oil pan bolts. Look at automatic transmission cooler line hangers for an example.

I have several types of tubing benders and prefer a Multi-piece tube bender for nice tight bends.

Sorry if the pic wasn't clear. The white line in the pics above is simply a route for the throttle cable. The hard line that is visible is a brake line. The fuel line (black rubber) still approaches the carb from the front and enters on the passenger side (see attached pic). The line is temporarily held in place with a zip tie, but as you can see I plan to tack it in with a padded clamp. So this might be a bad idea & I should move to attached in some way to the engine block??

I did order a Lokar steel braided throttle cable. Do you think I will have issues the way it is routed?

Thanks again for the advice.

The engine and transaxle move relative to the chassis. There needs to be some slack in the flexible throttle cable housing to allow the movement. Right now, there is no slack due to the clamp on the chassis.

Also, the throttle cable should not be close to the exhaust system. The cable liner is usually plastic and can melt, causing the throttle to hang open, possibly at a very bad time. If you turned the carb around, the cable would be about 4 feet shorter for less drag (less spring tension required) and expense and the cable could run up to within 12 inches of the carb on the frame, away from the exhaust. Instead of turning the carb around, a small bell crank could be used to change the direction of throttle pull.

Miatav8, will that cause any issues with pick up in the float bowl? Just asking because I dont have a clue...LOL!

It can affect the float level if the carb mounting surface on the intake is not parallel to the crankshaft. Also, if the carb mounting surface has smaller passages just for the carb primaries, I would not turn it around.

Most aftermarket intakes I've encountered are machined parallel to the crank and are either divided plenum (divider down the center so okay to turn around) or open plenum so it would not be an issue.

Just use a bell crank if it is a concern.

Thanks for the advice. I will look into the bell crank concept &/or move the cable from the engine/exhaust area

Fitted the hood tonight. Needed some trimming here and there. Am happy with the outcome. Side pods were trimmed, but not drilled. We'll do that tomorrow. Dzus fasterners will be used to secure the body parts to the chassis.

But do you sit in it and make Vrooom Vrooom noises?...I did
Keep pluggin guys!
I would sure love to be there at the first Hot Rod car show you guys roll up on!
BTW, Don't forget you can always use a heat sleeve on the cables and fuel lines if you just cant get the routing away from the headers.
Same type stuff they use on plug wires that run close to headers.
Or The headers themselves can be wrapped...just food for thought.....

I sure hope so Cheap...I hired a new guy to help clean welds, etc... and I'm still trying to figure out how to pay him...

More good advice. Looks like I have some options. Will try to reroute, then try bell crank, then wrap if necessary. I like the bell crank concept but there's not alot of room at the front facing end of the engine for routing the throttle cable. I'll keep playing.....

By the way exhaust system isn't complete. I plan to have additional piping & muffler so there should be less heat in critical areas if I route via the back side.

It's the little things....Added end caps to the sways and mirrors! :)
