after a suitable period of contemplation....the build of a thousand tasks begins this evening with the construction of the build table.

No promises on regular posting....being "low cost"....adhering to convention ....or even displaying a modicum of common sense.

It's about the journey.

Jamie

I can tell from the RHS profiles (1-1/2" x 1/2" ??) in the photo that we're doing something different here. I'll be looking forward to seeing what that is. Alfa V6 and transaxle? That should be interesting too.

Welcome to the zoo!

Cheers,

yeah, right on for the Alfa choice. that marque is under-represented hereabouts I think ;-)

okay.....so my build table may be a bit larger than normal.....6' by 12'.....my son says I must be compensating for something.....legs are 1.25 16 gauge steel....fitted with adjusters.... top is three sheets of 4' by 6' 1inch plywood.

why so big? .....refer to my first post (no common sense).....and my desire to do some of the first mock-ups using components on wheels ( aka the rear dedion suspension which is ~5.5 feet outside tire to outside tire....and maybe I am compensating....

first photo is partial proof that I can still mig weld

second photo is frame on sawhorses ....

third photo show adjuster design....3/4 inch bolt...into rod connector with washer.... if you weld just on two opposite sides...it will fit loosely into the 1.25 square steel.

forth photo show rough leveling.....that took a bit given the table has 12 legs..... (see post one again)

fifth photo shows plywood on top....and guiness for scale!!

now off to supper.....

jamie

The table legs need triangulation unless only the bare frame will be on it.

Definitely as you will be laying on it to get to the middle. That is a large table! Please don't take this as a negative comment as I'm sure the table will work fine and this is your build after all.

A 6' x 12' build table? Are you secretly building the first stretch Locost?

Looking forward to more pictures in the future.

Cheers,

"Yep, you're gonna do jusssssttt fine..."

Thanks JDK!... I hope so

Lonnie-S .....1" x 1" 11 gauge....and 1" by 2" 11 gauge.....erring on the side of weight and slowness

Robbovius .....alfas are under-respresented..... the sound of an alfa v6 on song is like no other !!

Cheapracer ..... alfas need an occasional flogging just to warm up the oil and drive off the volatiles....once ran a tank of 108 race gas through an Alfa Milano (a kind of 4 door GTV6 at a track-day at the local race track (Hallet)..... with several drivers and many sessions....at theend of the day the car ran the best that it ever had!

KLRB - good to rconnect with the local 7 community..... although it is non traditional and might not look "sevenish" .....it is from the 7 community....that I draw inspiration from.....

Gonzoracer.... guinness in a wine glass might be the most traditional thing I do....

KB58..... agreed triangulation is on the to-do list!

MYTF..... it might double as my sleeping platform....Mrs. Calgarylocost returns from vacation today..... (I kid)

Lonnie-S.... stretch locost - Good One!! - Without giving too much away the plan is to use all the suspension components / dimension of the Alfa GTV6 - but place the engine fully behind the steering rack.... this will require shortening and rebalancing of the troublesome engine speed drive shaft to the rear transaxle. Length of alfagtv6 about 12 feet.... width about 5.5 feet.....and given 4x8 plywood dimensions....led me to 6 x12.... for the body design I want to have the chassis with wheels on at table height

xr4Bill...... thanks for keeping asking me when I was going to start.... whenever I showed up at Alberta 7's meetings / car tours with my wild ideas :D

I once owned an 83' gtv6. To this day it was my favorite unreliable car to drive. Not many around.

Hello Jamie. Good luck with your Alfa V6 build..
I know of only one other, in Sweden, a beautiful machine.
My Alfa7 has been on the road over 3 years now. The donor is/was a 78 GTV Sprint
Veloce.
A McSorley 442 chassis was modded to make the deDion suspension and transaxle fit,
but just part of the process. It's not a kit, and upgrades are being made as we speak.
I have lots of those process photos that we're not posted and quite a few on here, search
My login handle.
