Being restored somewhere in England. It has smoked of sliding roof. Probably for Nordic types

I have no idea where "smoked " came from but it has a sliding roof.
It is a Hillman Aeromix Makes me think about designing a chassis to fit such a body style. The panels all look fairly simple. Check it out: http://www.valleygasspeedshop.com/previous.html

Holy cow! It's the chopped Standard Vanguard that gets me. We had one when I was a rug rat, but the previous model I think (1949 or 50 model as I recall).

Work on the Mini interior continues.The lower part of the rear seat sits on top of the Nissan rear seat for size comparison. The Nissan seat needs to be cut down.The seams of the seat cover have to be opened up and resewn to the new, smaller size.The smaller seat bottom ready to go in.The upper part of the seat back also needs to be cut down.The wire reinforcing from the Mini seat was also cut down to fit inside the Nissan seat foam.No picture of the finished upper seat since I'm still sewing. I sew by hand so it takes a while to finish.

Very cool to see the current updates. Its going to feel like a new car inside with an almost entirely new interior.

The only work on the new car was to clear the pile off from the body buck. However the Mini interior work continues. The Nissan front seats needed an adapter to bolt them to the Mini floor.I made the front mount so it would bolt to the stock position but I had to drill a hole for the rear of the mount. The modified track is on top, unmodified on the bottom.You can see there is quite a difference between the Nissan seat and the Mini seat. Even though the seats are larger they still fit nicely.Work continues on the back seat. The front door panels will be the last part. I'm going to try to do more than just recover the old panels so this might be a bit of a pain.

More Mini interior work. This time it is the upper portion of the back seat. The right way to sew the seam back up. The wrong way. This seam will get opened back up and done over. Its kind of hard to cut open hours of work but I won't be able to look at it if I leave it like this.

To fix some of the Mini seat troubles I had to open up some of the seams and add some foam.Then I sewed everything back up. Easy to say but actually took lots of hours.The back seat area is finally finished.Here is what I started with.It looks better in the picture than it did in person. I'm happy with the results.

The final part of the interior referb is new door panels. I haven't quite got this part figured out. I'd like to use the Nissan inside door handles but they pull the rods while the Mini lock wants the rods pushed. Here are the two panels for comparison.

I'm thinking that I'll start with 1/8" plywood and use parts of the Nissan panel and cover parts of the plywood with similar upholstery material. Reversing the door handle pull will take some thought.

If there is a place to mount it, a bell crank (sp) might accomplish the task.

When I posted last month all I had left to do on the Mini interior was the door panels. The plan was to use the old door panel as a pattern, cut out a thin plywood replacement and add the Nissan parts to it. The Mini door has a curve to it which is not apparent until you try to put a flat panel on it. I figured the slight curve could be made by wetting the plywood and bending it.Meanwhile the Nissan door pull worked in reverse of the Mini.By disassembling the door catch I could cut the arm apart and flip the arm to the opposite side. The catch would now work Nissan style..Night after night slipped by trying to get the uncooperative panel and backward catch to work. Finally I decided to just make a copy of the Mini door panel, cover it in matching black upholstery and call it good for now.
