Hi everyone! I have been a lurker on the site for over 10 years. In fact at one point I had a beater Miata for a donor but it was too nice to use.( I did drive it for a year). I even went to welding classes at the local community college because of the awesome people associated with the Locost Forums. I hope to build a Locost someday still.

I figured the building the Buggy would be a good learning experience.

My build started in summer 2010. I finished it summer 2013. (sat idle for a while and I got no heat in the garage ha) I am sorry I didn't take pictures of the build.
Here is a few pictures.
Thanks so much.
Tommy

Cool! I'd seen Ron's Build-Your-Own-Off-Road-Buggy book but never seen anything built from it. It looks like a good Introduction To Locosting project.

Keep up the good work, and welcome to the monkey house.

Neat lookin' buggy ya got there. And, like Jack said, now that you've practiced up on the buggy, you're ready to go full-scale and build a Locost.

Yeah, like he said, keep up the good work.

I kinda resent the "Monkey House" comment. Now, would someone please pass the bananas this way???

Welcome to the Monkey House was a short story by Kurt Vonnegut that didn't have monkeys or goats even. It didn't have cars but it did have a really cool title.

put on a bigger motor and better tires and you've got a very fun and dangerous A Mod

What fun! Something like that would be a great project to do once my car is done and my girl is old enough.

Hopefully the former happens before I can add "to vote" on the latter.

Thanks so much. This made my day! :D I am so happy you guys like my buggy. I will try to keep up the good work. Still need to make some fenders and maybe a snow plow.

@toobusy, yes it would be crazy fun and dangerous to put a bigger motor on , but I am okay with the 110cc copy motor. If I were to change it. I would maybe use a 1985-86 Honda ATC 250R motor and it would probably bounce my butt right out of the thing.

I can't start on the Locost 7 just yet, but I am always thinking about it. I am always searching Pinto, Bobcat, Capri, Datsun, MG, Chevette, Corolla, RX7, Opel and of course Miata!

Thanks

Hey, that's cool! :-) Looks like a lot of fun.

Sounds like you've got the bug hard! Keep obsessing. Don't wait until you're "ready" to take on a Locost build...just start tacking a frame together and the path will rise to meet you. Looking at what you built, I see no significant difference between it and a street legal car. More details, bigger scale...but same ol' stuff when you get down to it.

The two important things are: 1) You stared 2) You completed. You're qualified.
