Yeah, had to google yinz, I are smarter now.

I have to say, this build is a totally different mindset. I am not building from scratch, I am not building new, I spend a lot of time scratchin' and thinkin' wondering how to adapt the frame to be what I want it to be. Lots of measuring and re measuring and visualizing how to marry the Toyota drivetrain to the Fiat mouse. What will I end up with, a Toyotopolino?

Yours is a little like mine. Adapting a subaru drivetrain to an almost toyota hilux/tacoma shaped chassis

I did not see any blood on the frame!!! How did you lift off the body.
Also no Upper Control Arms I guess you do not have to worry about "high speed" control during braking

Yeah, I noted that too. The ol' Transverse Leaf Spring as Upper Control Arm system. Seems to me like Corvettes use (or used to) a similar concept for their IRS. Early Cobras had transverse leaf springs in front, but not sure if they served as the upper or not. Seems like it would make for goofy camber gain curves.

But for a cruiser, street driven runabout kinda car, maybe it would work just fine. Well, it did work just fine... How many of those Topolinos did they make???

The OEM front suspension/steering is all being removed and my own design with LCA, UCA, rack and pinion, and coilovers will be fabbed instead. There will be some major reworking on this frame. The OEM rear springs and diff will be replaced with a shortened/narrowed Toyota diff, hairpin radius rod rear suspension set up, and coilovers. The OEM 4.25 x 15" rims and tires will be replaced with 14 x 6" rims and 165/65R14 tires. In order to do this I have to modify the frame width, but still keep the OEM body mount locations in place.

This is going to be a very interesting build, Perry.

I'm looking at that frame and wondering why all the lightening holes about mid way? It sure seem like a lot of them even with the added strength of the "inner" frame they added instead of cross members. Even so, it looks live a very strong frame for such a small and light car.

By the way, I think they invented a new term for what you're doing with this car. I believe they call it a "restomod" combining restoration and modification - like we needed a new word these days. Hell, I can't understand but half the ones we already have. Don't confuse me with new ones.

Thanks Lonnie, I looked up the meaning of restomod and that exactly what I'm doing. Again I are smarter now!

Got the frame stripped down to the bare bones.


Turned frame over and began drilling out spot welds to remove refer plates so that I can restomod the frame for the Toyota diff.
