Thanks Lonnie

My only concern is the unlocked, sliding bolts on the side hatch(es). You just know that somewhere in your travels, some dummy is going to have to open them to see what's in the trailer.

Yes I thought of that so I built the side egress door so that you can't open it when the rear hatch is closed. There's a 'locating pin' that enters the frame plus a couple of tabs that guide the side hatch to engage the 'locating pin'. I have no idea iffin I am using the proper nomenclature (you young fellers will have to look that one up).

I've also had to do a bit of reverse engineering (I do that a lot), and added a second air spring to aid me in lifting the rear hatch.

I'm done with the sheet metal work
Need to place some red and amber reflectors on the enclosure and place some weather stripping where needed.

That sure looks clean, and bright, and sanitary! Very nice work  You might have gotten by with moving the gas spring toward the rear. It looks like you can get close to 2x the power simply by moving the upper end 2x further away from the hinge. Of course, that might require moving the lower further toward the vertical gap. Still, good going!

You way ahead of me already (as usual), Perry. You'd already though through that access problem.

As Chuck and JD have said, it looks really good.

Cheers,

Looks great, I was worried the tailgate was going to come down on you when you began to drive on. I was sorely disappointed with the no drama.

But I've got to warn you about "trailer frog". Just ask JD. He's had so much trouble since trailer frog appeared, or was it disappeared?

So after taking the trailer on a test run to Palm Springs I figured I needed to fabricate a 'trailer mover'. We had to place the car trailer in our stall along side the coach (once the car was off), there is plenty of room to do this. Unfortunately the trailer doesn't have a swivel caster, but a plain old fashion trailer jack. Even if the jack was a caster, I don't think wifey and I have the horse power required to push it around. I researched trailer movers, there's electric ones and manual ones and cost wise the skys the limit.
Anyhoo I purchased some pieces and because my labor is worth nothing I figure I could build one for less that $100 not counting the steel I have laying around my shop.
I'm using a forward/reverse trailer winch which I modified by putting on a chain sprocket.
Attachment:

Then a small 4.80-8 wheel that I modified by adding a sprocket on the hub.

IMG_4765.JPG

I then fabricated an adapter that will fit in the ball receiver and let this whole deal pivot.

IMG_4766.JPG

The winch is 4:1, the winch sprocket to wheel sprocket is ~2:1, should be enough reduction for this old guy to move an empty trailer around.

All this will make more sense once I have it all together and on the trailer with some pictures.
BTW it sure feels good to get back into the shop cutting steel and eating smoke, been awhile.
