Since I am using the stock car sway bar, the mounts do not perfectly align with the MGB frame rails. I made adjustment to the frame rails by using 1/4" thick steel. Drilled holes for 5/16" grade 5 bolts and then drilled counterbored holes. Cut off the heads of the bolts and welded the counterbore flush with the bottom. Then welded the adapters to the frame rails. One edge still remains to be welded as the rotisserie bracket is in the way.

I need to either find someone who has a shop press to make the required bends in the arms before they are welded on, or cut, bend and weld them.

I continue prepping the bottom of the car to paint with Rust Encapsulator. Probably have a few more days prep before I can shoot the bottom.

Hey Chuck
How are the sway bar arms retained on the splined shaft? Snap rings? Bolts?

Nice observation Perry. The bar itself is a racing style bar where the arms typically clamp over the spline. What you see in the previous picture is just my check on the fit. In my incarnation, I will be welding the arms in place as I won't be changing the spring rate. There is a counterbore in the arms to facilitate a large weld. I am well aware of those who caution about welding. I am ignoring them for the moment. I will wait until the car is on its feet with the real tires before I commit to bending the arms to fit and welding. I want to be sure to clear the tires in full lock turns.

I finished up cleaning the underside of the body. Completed the seam sealing and found some time yesterday to spray the bottom. I will have to wait for the car to be on the floor and upright before I can spray where the rotisserie mounts prevent access. This was part of the project that just took longer than I imagined it would. Don’t they all.

It doesn't look like a 55+ year old car anymore. At least the bottom anyway.

And it is still not done. I'm not sure if I will do a 2nd coat with bedliner or just plain old Rustoleum satin black. Probably the latter. What do you think?

Nice job! I would just paint the bottom. I don't think you will be prone to drive it in all kinds of weather.

Thanks. I have settled on the Rustoleum for most of the bottom. I will use Herculiner spray bedliner in the front and rear wheel wells.

Looks awesome Chuck, I also would paint the bottom and use bedliner for the inner fenders

I just posted in the for-sale section.
Quote:
I am looking for a pair of black Miata armrests in good condition as shown in the below picture. I think they were on '90-'97ish. This is for my MGB-GT project. Surely somebody using a Miata as a complete donor has a pair sitting around? Let me know what you have please.

You guys have always been so helpful in all of my oddball projects. Let's see what you can do this time.
