Eric and BW,
Yes the rotary sound at high rpm is sweet. Not as good as the bridgeport NA 13Bs at 9,000+ rpm in the GT2 race cars that I used to work on, but still makes me smile when we get a straight section long enough to get up to 7,000 rpm.

Lonnie,
Yep, especially since I can now just open the door and get in the seat. The Caterham required gymnastics to climb on top of the cage and then drop down through the triangulation.

Speaking of deluxe, the car is now registered and insured for street use. I changed the rear spoiler so that it's adjustable ( nearly vertical for autoX and laid way down for street). Now I need to make an exhaust pipe insert to bring the Db's down a little bit. :D

Love the Slotus sticker too. It's gotta be good for 2-3 MPH extra, don't ya think?

Cheers,

I'll get to the reloading of the lost photos later. For now, some recent updates to reduce the weight.
1) Aluminum doors with minimal sub-framing. Net 40 pound loss.
2) Carbon fiber top. Net 30 pound loss.
3) B-pillar/quarter panel sans all of the stock sub layers. Net 10 pound loss.
4) Rad support frame and rocker panels sans inner layers. Net 15 pound loss.

Total reduction 95 pounds. :D

EDIT
Well it looks like the site won't accept pics yet. IIRC, last time it took awhile for this to come back. :ack:

I use the [ img ] code, instead of attachments, for photos & host outside of there & all of mine appear to still be live.

One of the best builds on this site just keeps getting better - looks great with the extra lightness added.

KinRe, Thank you.

Lonnie, A new member to our area saw the decal and shared that he knew JD from a time when they both lived in Las Vegas.
Hoping you'll soon be getting back to making progress on your build.

Ron

That's great you found someone who knew JD, Ron. It is indeed a small world.

I'll be back building in a week or two.

Cheers,

Nobody noticed any of the recent work done to the car at the AutoX this weekend, except for the new brand of race tires on it. The bold yellow "GoodYear" isn't very stealthy. I discovered that this brand needs different camber than the Hoosiers used previously. That will change for the next event. It was more competitive overall though. :D

The effort to reduce weight continued with a small 5 pound total being removed from the cowel section above the engine. There's a lot more in that section of body to be had. The windshield frame is heavy gage and multiple layers. Planning to make aluminum replacement resting on the roll cage for support. The added bonus of the latest removal is better access to the engine and dry sump tank.

The AutoX last weekend went well and the car has much better grip. It did need more neg camber in the front (1 degree is where it got set). Made some fuel map changes after Saturdays runs and the runs on Sunday ran crisp all the way to 6500 rpm.

With 3 gallons of gas in it, the car weighs 1890 pounds.
