"Moved to your other shop?" My, my, my, I wish I had that problem.

I've been juggling cars and machinery into/out of my garage for years. It's a butt pain. Right now, everything is packed into one of the two car slots. I'm doing a lot of maintenance/detail work on my fleet with the intention of selling everything but my new truck and the Locost. So, "no progress" is just temporary until then. "Other shop", indeed.

By the way, we're in for a triple-dip La Niña this year. That means another dry winter for California and a wetter, colder winter for the Northwest with lots of snow. Please, bring your water with you when you come [LOL].

Cheers,
Let's reflect on this a bit Lonnie. My belief is that the more space you have, the more sh!t (tooling) you acquire and still have no room. Hopefully it will be warm enough when we depart we can have some water onboard the MH, we always have ~1/3 tank full when in the RV park because we have lost water supply there, you know, you gotta flush that toilet

On to the build! Frame is on rotisserie fully welded for this year. Currently working on the seat sliders, pan, and frame. Hopefully when done I can just drop the seats and lap belts in on final assembly. Nothing pic worthy of welds on frame.

On another note I have joined the COVID +ve community as of this morning. Sucks. But I did spend 4 hrs in the shop. Wearing a mask in the house when wifey is around, she's going to be sleeping downstairs for now or unless she may test positive. For now all I feel is aches and pains in my joints, runny nose, and mild coughing like a bad cold. Will see what the next few days bring.
Capt'n Morgan is nursing me with his spiced rum. In the immortal words on Doctor Zackery Smith from Lost in Space - "ohh the pain, the pain..." You young fellers need to google Lost in Space

Perry, sorry to hear you've got the Covid Crud. No fun! I just got over it two weeks ago--didn't quite make it to the updated vaccine. I started on a prescription of Paxlovid within a day of testing positive. Only had one day of discomfort once on the Rx and tested negative after the five-day prescription was complete. No rebound or side effects.

Get well, my friend, and head south to the sunshine.

Sorry about the COVID, Perry. It sounds like it's going to be mild, though.

Regards,

Lonnie

Thanks guys, this is day 5 and I can say that I've had way worse colds and flues than this but time will tell.

Out to the shop today. Finished up fitting the seat rails to the frame, welding a mount for the proportioning valve, and a bit of a frame cutout for the future exhaust piping. I then put the frame away for the winter.

Then I started to tear down the engine to see what I need to order for parts this winter. #1 & #4 spark plugs were fouled, actually #4 had a bridged gap. This tells me why it ran on only 3 cylinders when I started the engine prior to removing it from the truck. All valves look serviceable with a face and seat grind, guides are in good shape. Valve seals are questionable. No crosshatch on the cylinder walls, can't wait to pull the pistons to see what the rings look like. Good news is that there isn't any noticeable top ring reversal wear at the tops of the cylinders.

Perry, I've had COVID once. Can't recommend it. Hope yours clears up soon

I'm new to the term of 'top ring reversal wear'. Is this similar to having a ridge at the top of the cylinder?

A benadryl before crawling into bed helped when I had it, carried that on for a few weeks after to deal with the lingering "WHAT IS GOING ON!!!" that my immune system was dealing with.
Just be careful, the captain and diphenhydramine like to make ya really drowsy...

Yeah I'm aware of that, haven't be taking anything for the past couple of days, other than the 'sniffles' first thing in the morning the rest of the day I feel normal. No energy loss, no lost taste, no loss of appetite, no heavy chest, no cough, and this is day 8.

Yep, that's the area that gets the most abuse, the least lubrication, thus the most wear. In some major wear cases you need to use a cylinder ridge cutter to remove the part of the cylinder above the ring wear in order for the rings to be to get past the wear to remove the pistons. Didn't have to do that on this engine.

Well the build is put away for winter. The block and head are cleaned. Received the rings, cons and main brgs. Will be ordering the O/H gasket set this winter.
Starting to put the motorhome in order.
California bound on the 21st

The only thing I found missing when I bought this project was the SS grill.
Bought me a new one and lightened up the wallet a bit

I'm going out on a big limb to guess that you weren't back in Canada purchasing that grill based upon the attire you have in the picture...

Sweet find.

You are correct, we are suffering through winter in Palm Springs California :D

Well, after a ~5 month hiatus it's back to the grindstone.
Made it out to the shop yesterday and assembled these 4 gems.

Then yesterday wifey and I had the surprise of our lifetime. Our youngest boy and his wife who have 4 kids somehow managed to keep a secret from us. It was made easier by us spending the winter down south.
Here she is.......#7 grandkid, Aztryd Blaise Dascavich!
Between my father and Aztryd there is over 95 years difference.

Looks like I may have to build another car......sigh.....
