When you say variable geometry turbo do you mean one like the old Aerocharger or is it one with externally controllable vanes? Meaning you'd need some sort of ecu to control it?

Holset VG35(40?) iirc. You can control it by pwm or exhaust pressure, actuators are available for either method.
I recommend keeping an eye on exhaust temp, those don't seem to like the higher temps of gasoline near stoich very much.
It, well, ummm. .. spits pieces out the tailpipe. :ack: Nothing wrong with running a fat mixture right?

It uses vanes controlled by a solenoid. However, I have the vanes pinned in the fully open mode. The gas engine has more energy in the exhaust (heat and volume) than the diesel application so the turbo spools up with no problem.

oldejack,
We have been watching the turbo for signs of overheating. So far everything looks good. We just did a leak check on the turbo and all is good. I believe the tune is sitting at about 11.8/1 under boost so I am getting some cooling from the fuel.

Here is on looking from the back during a rolling race start at Autobahn. Lot's of issues as this was my first race start, but the audio is decent:

This is taken looking forward at Mid-Ohio. You can't really hear the turbo, but the video is pretty decent:

Other than that, I have been really bad about taking video over the last year.

Lifting a rear tire (second picture?) Is there an LSD in the tranny? What's the final vehicle weight?

Picture #1 shows both front tires off the ground.
Picture #2 shows both rear tires off the ground.
Either or both look like a helluva ride...

Those pictures are taken at Grattan Raceway coming over the appropriately name "Jump". It's not uncommon at all to have all four tires come off the ground. The track is shaped so that you don't really notice it. I would not have believed it until I saw these pictures. It's a great part of an even better track.

The car weighs just over 2400 pounds. It uses a Corvette C5 diff; they all have LSD.

The car has been an absolute blast. The turbo added some power, but also some great sounds and even more curious onlookers. All that being said, it is waiting for a new engine right now. I replaced the 5.3L with a 6.0L just in time for our latest race only to find out we forgot the o-ring on the oil pickup tube. So, now I need to tear the 6.0L out of the car; see what was damaged; and replace.

Thanks for the compliments. I am always willing to give rides if anyone comes out to one of my 3 Balls Racing events.

Ken

It's a rare treat to see an auto being used effectively and I just love the smooth transition from braking to apex powering on and power out exit without driveline or idiot driver interuptions.

momentum = worthy lap times.

Paint your rollbar black, would look great with the yellow lower ...

Ken, quick question, are you running a stock torque converter or had the stall speed changed?
