Hey Kurt,

The car looks good and I am looking forward to buying a copy of the book. I really enjoyed reading the Kimini book.

I was wondering why you decided not to install the fenders for the car. I saw on your build pictures that you test fit them, and I thought it looked really good with them on. Just curious.

Mark

A bit more footage, taken from outside the car. It gives an idea of why I like track days so much; no rules other than safety gear, so anything and everything shows up. Be sure to up the resolution and the volume! At bottom is the link to the in-car footage.

I don't mean to say that your car is small, but on the first video, I looked at that WRX/EVO turbo sedan thingie and my first thought was "what's that SUV doing on the track?"!

Looks like awesome fun. Lots of company on the track. Good work!

Great job. The car appeared to be very well composed. The rovals can really show a lot of car dynamics.

Just kidding...

A few people have mentioned this, and it was due to practicality that I didn't. That is, we weren't allowed to pass in turns without a point by, and on the twisty bits, no one points anyone by. Yes, I could late brake and come up behind them mid-corner, or take it easy on my car and still be behind them at corner-exit. So in this case, I didn't feel that late braking would have resulted in a faster lap time. OTOH, a real race would be a completely different kettle of fish.

IMO, late braking is over-rated. There are a few situations where it's called for, like the end of a long straightaway, or to get underneath another car, and some turns just seem to invite trail-braking, but in most cases I'd rather get the car set up early to maximize exit speed. Particularly if you're trying to get around a car in front of you. Sometimes you can pressure him into late braking, to your advantage.

Agreed. As I see it, you want to be cornering at max adhesion, which will define your fastest possible speed. Going into a corner nose-down, then shifting attitude will upset the balance of the car and limit your velocity. My mantra is to try and time things so that you've braked as hard as you can for the shortest amount of time as possible, enter the turn as fast as you can without unnecessary scrubbing, and start accelerating as soon as your radius increases so that you've got more available traction.

Agreed! In general late braking is best for completing a pass. If you're trying to gain ground on someone (in most cases) it's better to optimize for the best possible corner exit. Of course generalizations like these always have their exceptions.

I suppose that late braking is useful if you want to block someone's entrance into a corner, but lots of crashes happen that way, and in the case of track days might get you thrown out of the event.

? When I'm on a track ( a race car track ) my head (the one full of MUSH ) thinks it is a race !

Let'e see, if it is straight line breaking ,before a turn, that would be OK? :boxing: just kidding.
I have made alot of good clean passing that way.
