I know its not a locost build, and I havent done much work on my locost since its been running pretty good laitly, but figured you guys wouldn't mind checking out something thats still a bit different.

Its a Lexus sc300 that I've got about a month to build before the first of the drifting competitions start up for the season.

Today's work,

Started this way, one main hoop and one A pillar bar fitted.
Image

Yes its that close
Image

Added other side then the top bar
Image

Then made some braces
Image

And tacked them in
Image

Then some for the front
Image

Then welded the bottoms
Image

Made some holes to drop the cage down under the base plates to weld the top sections in,
after the bottoms, pulled the base plates out and dropped the cage down to weld the tops.
Image
Image

Here's the finished front section
Yes that small black line inbetween the cage and the body is the gap.

Random stuff,
Subframes before,

Headlights,

Didnt get too much done today. Was on the phone alot trying to get parts and such.

Added the rear bars,

Goes into the rear, trying to tie as much of the frame rails as possible
Image

Then made some cool under fender tie ins
Image

They go from the front legs of the cage to the under area of the shock towers
Image

Then an evo came back from storage, I did the cage and it went out to paint, then went into storage till they had time to put the rest of the car back together. Here's some pics,

Thats wicked cool man, one day I want to try drifting my locost. My brother is building an S13 right now and I've somehow convinced him to do a big V8 swap, should be fun for drifting :) :)

Yeah, I've taken my locost out a few times. There are vids on my builders log. I also have a s13 as my regular drift car. This is going to be the new killer car.

I know its saturday, still have work to do.

Welded in the main 6 point

Then put the car on the rack, drained the gas tank, took out the brake lines and fuel lines, took out the gas tank, and getting it ready to send to the media blasters. Think I found a place to powder coat the chassis.

I've done a few but still need to learn how to do them better. My bending method is pretty much guess work. I kinda know what it will be like, but alot of the times I end up making the thing twice.

Beautiful work Alex.
The only thing that I think you'd want to do is to try and make your mounting plates for the legs three dimensioal, to tie them into more than one plane.
Take at some cages built by the world's most serious pros (for major racing series and such) and you'll see a lot of that.

Moti

PS, it's sticky  !

Updates....

Since the inside is getting coated, I needed to fill in the sunroof hole. Started off with some cold roll and cut it out to just a touch larger.
Image

Then rolled it a few times to get some shape

Image

Used as many magnets in the shop I could find and got the final fitment.

Image

Then welded in

Image

After all that, Got to taking off the rest of the parts like the windows and doors and such. Called up the media blasters and put the car on the back of a trailer. Here's what it looked like on its way out.

Image

And the phone number is anyone needs it.

Image

Should be there for a couple days. I got started on cleaning the suspension and subframes. Going to the machinist on sat to make some new parts. I'll get some after shots when the car comes back.

Badass. I love SCs. They remind me of a larger Zenki S14, especially from the rear.

What're you doing for power, 2JZ, 1UZ, or perhaps something else?

Are you trying to find a 6 speed or an R154?

Id rather a r154 but its hard to find the complete setup. I dont want to have to buy a 1jz clip just for the trans.

Hey Alex, do you have an idea what's the approximate cost of buying a 2JZ and doing a single turbo?
