3 years since my last post, Don't worry, I'm still around but virtually no work on the car. Life happened as everyone can relate to. Prepped and sold 2 houses, ended up without a shop for 3 months, moved into a new house, and sold a rental property. The car did see daylight for the first time when I assembled it for the move.

Once I got settled in the new place, I figured the best way to jump start the build is to buy more tools! I've always wanted a lathe and mill and found this used set locally. A Grizzly G0602 10x22 lathe and a G0704 mill. They came with a decent amount of tooling that'll get me started. The mill is a bit smaller than I prefer but is definitely easier to move around.

I'm not sure how these are going to help with the sheet metal and wiring though
I've been stuck on the design of the rear body work for a long time but think I've got a decent plan right now. This could end up being the worst looking car around, but it'll be my hand built ugly car!

Welcome back.

Your build looks to be in great shape for having sat around for quite a while. Nice lathe and mill. I think the mill will be just fine for the typical small parts we make for Locosts. If you outgrow it, there's always something for sale on Craig's list, so plenty of future options are available.

Cheers,

Damn! That front slip angle is way too large and the Ackerman is just a muddle.

Spent some time with CAD, (cardboard aided design  ) for the rear body work. I finally settled on minimal bodywork and not trying to cover the down tubes. This simplified the shapes and mounting. At this point, I'm not planning on rear fenders. They aren't required here and once I get it on the road, I'll add some if I throw up too many rocks! If I do, they'll be cycle style mounted to the control arms. Under the rear cover is the fuel tank, and behind it in the left over triangle shape, I plan to incorporate a trunk. Still need to work out the rear most panel that could also wrap under the rear some, including mounting for rear lights.

Slowly making progress. Turned the cardboard into aluminum on the rear. Made the trunk/fuel tank floor and then the sides.

I always struggle with how permanent to mount the panels. The quick light weight method is of course to rivet but always thinking about those times when I'll need to access something. Right now, thinking the sides and bottom will be riveted and the top panel removable to remove the fuel tank if needed.

Also, bent up some brackets to hold the rear tail lights. Wiring is hidden inside the bracket and the square tube of the subframe.
