About thirty five years ago I made the mistake of selling my running and driving Morris Minor Pick-Up.
I was escaping CA for NV and just could not make even more trips to move cars, new owner drove it away for $500. :BH:
It made sense at the time but I have kicked myself ever since.
A year or so ago I bought a replacement, just a roller with very little rust.
Paid a LOT more for it.
I had no plan to get into it right away but after selling my one-ton Chevy flatbed I find myself needing a truck far too often.
Also need something with an engine that is not too highly tuned for use as a daily driver.
Lotus and El Camino are both over the top and may need race fuel. :?:
So I have reluctantly moved the Morris/Ford to active build status.
Ford Kent 1600/711M and T9 overdrive.
This will be a "Vintage" build as this was a fairly popular conversion a couple of decades ago.
Now it is Zetec's, which I am sure are harder to make fit, but of course there are kit$ to make it simpler.
But I'm a vintage guy and already have the Kent.
I do have to hope it is not too hopped up.
It came from a Birkin 7, has dual Dellorto 40's and a ported head.
I have no idea of the cam or compression but the Birkin was a street car.
Hope to just go through the Dellortos and do some normal clean up as the Kent was sold to me as good to go.
I've managed to get the Kent fitted to my engine test stand and should be able to run it around the end of the month.
Still waiting on some small items like a new distributor cap.

Here is an old pic from the MAC, I have to find my camera battery charger to get more.

Since I have given up paying silly money for rare parts to do proper restorations, the Morris will be a "Resto-Mod".
As I get older I despise having to lean over fenders,
So for easy engine and front suspension access I bought this one-piece fiberglass front clip.
It seems these are NLA as all the prior sources no longer list them.

Since I plan to replace the MM suspension with MGB I would like to also upgrade from the cart springs at the rear.
Thinking three-link with triangulated upper link, which seems to work fine for Alfa Romeo.
Then if I use some air shocks I could also adjust ride height to compensate for loads.
"1/4 Ton" in this case is more like 600 Lb's in USA weight.
Maybe more with the B axle, frame reinforcement, and 80-100 HP.

Why MGB suspension?
For an unbreakable diff, 14" wire wheels, and bigger brakes, of course!
It also gets the steering rack out of the way.
Original rack mounts to the firewall behind the engine and is THE big issue for swaps.
I am determined to keep it all British even though I am mixing the makes.

A step forward, a step back. :BH:
It seems the T9 I ordered via feeBay has gone "Missing in transit", AKA STOLEN!
Seems to be the new normal, and a T9 is not the Hope Diamond, so just thuggery at play.
Cannot order another until I get my refund, and of course prices are still going up.
So for now I only have the "Type E" 4-speed to work with.
Not certain how much has to be changed between them when I finally do have a T9.

A second T9 shipped today.
Hopefully this one makes the whole trip and I get it before Christmas.

Getting closer to test running the Ford cross-flow 1600.
Ignition module is supposed to arrive today and the engine is in the test stand.
Had to go with Pegasus Racing to get a distributor cap.
I have to temporarily remove the oil cooler adapter.
Exhaust is now on and a right angle fitted to direct it away from me.

Here is a first pic of the engine test setup.

Completing the setup is being a bit annoying, lots of little detail$ to be done.
Have to get a low pressure fuel pump, water temp sender, oil pump gasket, and adapt the small 1600 water outlets to a radiator designed to cool big-block fords.

Got a notice this morning from feeBay that the second T9 has been loaded into a container.
So now I am literally "Waiting for my ship to come in"!

Another step back.  :BH:
Luminition unit is not working so no spark.
Had hoped to have it fire off today.
Only readily available replacement appears to be PerTronix.
If I still had POINTS I would have spark!

Antiquated as they are, I too sometimes wish my build just had a distributor and a 4-barrel carb. It would make my life a lot easier since those are things things I can work on myself.

Cheers,

The day got stranger!

"Dec 1, 2023 4:36am
UPS delayed the package during the aviation security screening.
Castle Donington"

I was expecting a boat, transit time was quoted in weeks.
No idea how a transmission on an open pallet becomes a security issue.

It's a pickup or chopper wheel and a module. If it is optical,it could just be dirty.
If it still doesn't work with the module wired properly, you could just replace it or switch to pertronix for about $150.
If magnetic, you could check the ohms of the pickup to see if it open or shorted.
If it is the module, depending on the mag pickup ohms, it could probably be replaced with a $10 GM HEI 4 pin module/amp mounted to a piece of aluminum as a heat sink.
If you want to go back to points, I'm not sure anything but the normal replacement parts were removed.
