Hey guy's this is a design that a fellow LoCost-er came up with but he lacks the space and time to build it, so I'm building it up partially for him.
The design started from Sketches sent back and forth with features from many different exo's out there that he wanted included in his design.
We decided to use an 08 Hyabusa engine with and accusump system, Mustang II front suspension (big brakes) and Miata rears.
The Basic design uses a flat bottom chassis (unlike most exo's) that will make attaching the alum floor and semi stressed alum lower sides easier. It also allows us to run the cooling tubes, brake lines, etc..through the center spine.
It's not built for racing so a few extra pounds are not gonna make or break this 200hp toy anyway.
I also had the freedom to play with the inboard shocks to build something a little different than the tradional box style bulkheads:D
Steering is Porsche and the bodywork will be little more than a nose/hood combo.
Anyway here is where we are at so far after a few months.

Some pics of the rear susp and diff build up.
Had to machine the sprocket blank and the Miata LSD for the Viton o-rings.

Great looking stuff! Glad you're keeping yourself busy, Bro...

One question, regarding the roll bar hoops over the passenger compartment- I notice they lean "forward", over the seats. In the event the car was bottom-upwards, resting on the roll hoops, the stress on the hoops would tend to push them forward, putting the rear braces in tension. I think it would be stronger the other way, as in hoops leaning slightly toward the rear of the car, and in a rollo, the stress on the hoops would put the braces in compression.

Since this is a street car, it's likely a moot point... I'm just thinkin' out loud...

Very cool chassis.

Now do my eyes deceive me or is one of those things not like the others?

The first bare chassis appears to have side diagonals go all the way to the bottom and the other shots don't show that.

What diagonals do you mean? If its the very first pic its a model 12th scale I built and we decided to omit those for what will be the semi-stressed aluminum lower pieces like the drawing.

Yeah I guess it is... :lol:
No the mains are just 2" .083. Its all my current equipment can handle (for now) looks larger because the cars really small I think.

I don't have the books to check, but hows the rigidity of the 2" vs. the 2.5"?

I was thinking that 2.5" x .065 was the "standard" for Atoms.

You're right it does look big. Better yet, it looks right.

When you say equipment you mean your bender correct?

I like those rear A arms. What hub is that?

Once the bulk head diagonals go in and the rear ties the main tubes into the diff mount with the added floor pan frame and alum sides she'll be plenty ridged I think.
The roll bars, braces and misc parts are .095 dom
The braces right beside the seat that stop intrusion into the driver and passenger area are .120wall, Not my toy so better safe than sorry.
Yes the max I can roll and bend with my current dies is 2"
Rear uprights are Miata

Pook, I love the design of the body work. Resembles a lot of what I will be doing with partial body work. As always amazing fab skills!

Man! That's some awesome work you do! Very inspiring.
The At-om has always had a odd shaped nose to my eye, I think your sketch looks much better.

Thanks guy's But the design isn't all mine. Steve already had what he wanted in his head and my job was to take it from paper to roller.
The cool part is we've never met and the whole thing has been an Internet collaboration, When it's a roller it ships off to CO, which is perfect for me since I really only like the basic fab part anyway. :BH:

Well I got the diff in, the shock position finalized and was able to brace the rear a-arm mount and make a tail light holder at the same time :wink:
Still need to finish some bracing here and there but all in all a good weekend!
