I expect that I will be finishing my build within two months and will need to begin the registration process in Tennessee. I would value any advice form someone who has actually done this before ... in Tennessee.

The car is a CMC frame locost ... I have the manufacturer's documentation for the frame.
It is a bike-engined car ... so no reverse gear or reverse lights
I do not plan on installing a windshield at this point in time .. it seems like a windshield is not required ... hopefully that also excludes the need for wipers and defroster.

I live just south of Nashville in Williamson county if that has any bearing.

Please pass along your knowledge.

Understand titling and registration are two, separate things.

Contact CID in Region 3 about the requirements:

http://www.tn.gov/safety/CID.shtml

It would be a good idea to speak to these folks as well:

http://www.tn.gov/revenue/vehicle/contactinfo.htm

If you can get titled, the title may indicate the vehicle is a 2012, or qualify as a "reconstructed title" based on the CMC MSO, with the production year being the same as the production year for the chassis.

There may be a problem with using a bike engine in the car. Registration requires passing an emission's test for vehicles produced after 1975 in your county.

Check your needs. You might choose to register as a custom vehicle, in which case you are registered as the year of the car it closely represents. In Illinois I registered as a 1960 under a similar law. Check your state statutes. The TN law was signed into effect in 2008.
