I couldn't find a final update on the Cal Bill AB1740 so I asked SEMA and here's the response. AB1740 was to increase the number of SB100 exemptions from 500 to 750 a year. Note the comment about 2011 and the exemptions still left. Also SEMA has an Action Network, known as SAN that anyone can join as mentioned in the response.
The bill was amended to increase these registrations from 500 to 750, but failed to pass a Senate Committee in 2010 (see below). It was not reintroduced in 2011. You may be interested to know that the DMV is reporting that almost 100 of the 500 exemptions from 2011 remain unclaimed. Are you a SEMA Action Network member? If so, you would have received this information direct to your e-mail box when the action took place. SAN members receive regular updates on these bills as they move through the legislature.
The SAN is a unique partnership between car clubs, individual enthusiasts and members of the specialty automotive parts industry who work together to promote pro-hobby legislation. SAN members receive legislative updates as bills are introduced in their states, including the contact information for particular lawmakers or committees that will decide a bill's fate. In addition, SAN members receive information about legislative issues through its monthly newsletter, Driving Force. Best of all, joining the SAN is FREE and carries no obligations. You can sign up by visiting our website at

Thanks again.
