I am sure it is possible, but unsure if it would be registered as the 60s Lotus it is based on or using the build date or drivetrain year production or whatever. Anyone have any experience with this?

The first question is whether or not the car has been registered in any other state?

If it has a current state registration, what state is it and how is it registered?

If it has never been registered you would need to apply for California's SB100 status. Check out this discussion about the SB100 process.

Hope this helps,

Like the Zetec Locost in KY that has been registered. Not sure what it is registered as. Equipment wise it ticks a lot of my desires. I just want it to be not super difficult to register here. SB100 would be ideal.

My guess is that it would be a standard out of state purchase as long as it's already registered, you'd have to pass CHP inspection and VIN verification. If you can do all of that then I think you'd be ok. If it is registered as pre-1975 then you wont have to worry about smog. I thought about registering mine in Nevada under a friend's name and then transferring the title back to CA when the appropriate time and mileage had elapsed if I couldn't get the SB100 done. You can always drop by CHP and ask questions.
