Anyone running Avon or Goodyear Slicks in 15" sizes and ifso what compond? I was planning on running the Hoosier slick Bias in a 22.5x9.5-15 in the R25 compounds but they are now only available in R35 compound which will be to hard for single driver 1400 pound car.

Even if your running goodyear what compounds are you running.

Or Avon what compounds are your running.

Thanks for any input.

You should see if you can find out what weight cars the tires are intended for. I'm out of date, but used to be the 15" slicks were made for big heavy stuff like stock cars. They didn't have a reputation for working well in the light cars. I don't think it was just compound issues.

Are 13" rims and big formula car tires out of the question?

We used to run Formula-V tires on our skinny 15" wire wheels. Do they still make them? They were definitely overloaded on a 2500-lb sports car, but would probably work well on a Locost-type car.

The hot setup amongst D Mod and E Mod autocrosses recently has been Formula Atlantic tires, which are 13 inch rims and widths from about 8.5 out to 12. (Yeah, a 13 inch rim and a 12 inch wide tire...)

Only problem is, they tend to be rather pricey. Sasco showed some on their website, last time I looked, that were over 300 bucks per tire. Ouch!!!

The issue is the doner caliber size to big for 13" wheels size unfortunately. After some long discussions Avon tires with the A15 compound will most likely work but at 400+ a tire is hard to justify on a locost. Looks like some DOT r comps are the next best thing:( According to Hoosier Tom they will fire off quicker (get to operation temp) quicker than most slicks.

Now to figure out how to reengineer camber back into the rear for radials.

I ordered a set of 21x9x13" Avons for autox only use in the A15 compound, sasco provided them for $238 ea which is not too bad compared to a hoosier. The hoosier is famous for its very short lived grip curve,by 30 runs they are much slower than new.I talked with a guy that tested a set of 90 run Avons back to back with a set of fresh Avons...old set was within 2/10's.

A light car will take quite alot of time to get much stick from an r-comp especially the road race compound R6,fine if your tracking and know to take it easy for couple of laps. For autox they'll suck.

For a fairly direct comparison this my 950lb car on khumo 710's versus used R25 ho ho's.
