New to this and was wondering what classes are available for Locost BEC for SCCA autocross? What are you running and how competitive are you. Any tips and heads up would be greatly appreciated as I’m planning the build process this summer (hopefully).

Thanks in advance
J

Pretty sure Bike engine throws you right into B Mod. I built an R1 powered car a couple of years ago. My biggest problem was needing more tire. Oh, a better driver would have helped too. I was always in the upper 3rd of our local group on raw time running 195 14 street tires.

Well that’s good news! I though BEC were outlawed in B mod? I guess they’re allowed now. We’re you running the standard “book chassis “ or one of the larger tubs? Also were you shaft driven or chain? I’m trying to figure out which one would be the advantage seeing i plan on running IRS and a larger Ducati twin for weight distribution.

I was shaft drive to a 4.30 Toyota rear in a book chassis

Here's the snippet from the 2018 rule book,

Yeah, that’s what i thought by reading it under c/4 but just making sure. If ya don’t know for sure always ask! Man, was minimum weight hard to achieve? I guess if it’s too light i can always put ballast where needed so it corner balances true. I just don’t want to build a car that’s ruled out because it was made illegal due to ever changing rules.

So I’ve gotta ask....Did you do a reversing set up and/or do you think it’s necessary for an autocross/track car that may see road time too and from the event ? Haven’t decided on that avenue yet.

I had a street BEC with no reverse and I thought it was kinda cool. Given a little planning when parking (don't park nose down on an embankment, duh) it was never a hassle. The car was easier to push back than the bike the motor came from--it was a little heavier, but then again, it wasn't going to fall over if I stumbled--and the push back, hop in, and go procedure had an old-time-racer style to it.

I don't know that I'd exactly call that good news. It's D Mod that BEC's were kicked out of, even though they never proved an advantage, and bumped much less competitively to B Mod.
