The frames on these cars are already quite light. Andrew's Locost model said it was 118 lbs. in the Grape program. Andrew's frame is less then %50 heavier and something like 6-8 times as stiff. For the Locost and locost style cars, I just don't think the numbers add up. Sure you can go lighter and stiffer, but where is the roll cage, crash worthiness and general durability?

For the OP, I'm not sure what it will take to fix that frame. You can download the Grape program to do FEA. That will give you the stresses in your frame and may guide you in what it needs. Or you can just build it and enjoy driving. Along the way you may learn what it takes to make a proper frame, if that's what you want.

Is this a street car or for some local club track time?

Building the actual frame is not a large percentage of the work of getting the car going, especially when you register for the street. So if you made a new frame it's not a big deal really. It's after that that people get discouraged when they realize how much more they need to do and how many details there are.
