Post subject:  Roll cage? Roll hoop? Anyone have CAD plans?

I've seen several builders lament that, if they had it to do all over again, they'd build their roll cage first. However, building a roll cage, or even a roll tube, without either plans or a chassis, seems to be a losing proposition. And, I don't have a tube bender in my budget, which means that I might have to contact a local person to bend up the hoop / cage (I'm moving to NASCAR team country, so perhaps someone knows how to do that).

What would be really great is if someone-who-does-CAD, who knows SCCA regs (yeah, I know, I know), would have some basic plans for roll cages / roll hoops for the most popular designs (book, McSoreley, etc). Has anyone done that? I realize that no one wants to take liability in case the design doesn't work, but can't we at least have something besides a few pictures?

Thanks!

Tim

Purchase a 5 tube rollbar and add to it from Kinetics:

Or purchase your own full design from Jimmy at RollCageComponents.com . Just give them a drawing of what your car needs. A few of us have purchased our roll bars this way.

Every Locost chassis is different as are the desires of the builder. If you want a full cage, you'll either have to design it yourself or hand off the chassis to an experienced frame builder. The basic plans are in the appendix of most major racing organizations. The requirements may change depending on your intended use/class. I did the hand-off process on an older Formula Vee chassis to get it into current compliance.
