I have looked all over but I can't seem to find plans for a miata based Locost. I have "the book" and I see that most people are using those plans and tweaking them to make the miata parts fit. I'm looking for plans that take much if not all of the guess work and tweaking for when I start my build. Can anybody help me out?
Thanx guys

Plans? PLANS? Pfffft! (laughter) We don't need no stinkin plans!

The Haynes Roadster chassis is a +2 design, with a bit of extra under the hood for wider motors. That's what I'm building, albeit for a Camaro 3.4 and a solid rear axle (that last bit is definitely out of scope). They have a nice book and everything.

Googling for "McSorley 442" yields: http://www.sevenesque.com/plans/

That's what I built my Miata-based Locost from, and am very pleased. There have been lots of these built.

Also look at the Gibbs book.

The Vodou plans are based off of a Miata donor, look them up.

I tried, that website was down yesterday. That's what I provided the links that I did.

Click below for VoDou plans. I'll host them for a few days or so.

The plans are specific to the Miata rear end (diff/spindles/etc). Haynes Roadster plan mods are more about the rear suspension than the engine. But heck, people put 302s in their Miatas, so why not?

The Haynes (Gibbs) book talks about the Rover V-8 as a feasible engine option. Don't know if tthe 302 (Ford?) is significantly bigger than the Rover/BOP engine.

I'm using the Haynes chassis for my GM 3.4 V8. I'd say that a SBF would fit in there. Certainly there is ample space between the rails for the motor, and the rails are higher I think than most other plans. I know there are variations in the dimensions for the SBF (modular vs SBF vs modern motors, etc), and if you'd like, I'll get some measurements and compare it to your needs.

The Miata rear end is, what, 3.90-4.10-4.30? You might want to consider putting in the T-bird or LS rear ends into your design. Don't want to get into a "what rear end should I choose" discussion, but just suggesting that a Haynes-V8 build might need mods in the butt end.
