Maybe something to play with and get me started on this stuff. Hmmm...

By all means, get started. You will be so much in a better position to build your slant 6 after getting actual experience with one of these cars.

I agree with Marcus, get one while you're in Germany and get some experience with it, then when you get back you'll have a much better idea of what you want to build and how to go about it. I've been auto crossing mine off and on for a few years and I got it insured for street use last year. The list of things I'd like to improve or modify is so big that I'm thinking about building a whole new car to get what I want. Don't get me wrong, I love the car I built and giggle like a schoolgirl every time I drive it, but if I build another it will be so much better because now I kinda almost think I know what I'm doing. Part of it is I want a car that I can actually race, and that requires a full cage and all the rest of the safety gear, and to add that to my car would be almost as much work as building a new one, but still have a lot of compromises that a race car doesn't or shouldn't have. Not that my car is a plush cruiser by any means, but there's still a ton of stuff I'd do differently next time around.

I have been poking around on eBay lately as well. There are quite a few projects out there in various states of repair. They guy selling the Locost chassis on the UK forum won't reply, so I guess he isn't that interested in selling it (at least not to me). I liked the idea of the Mk Indy chassis, but adding up all the parts it would need (it is just a chassis and nothing else) would take too long for me to get it anywhere close to done before I leave next summer.

I'll post here if/when I come up with something to play with.

As far as a chassis to get started with, I've found a mock up "Mule" that started life as a Book chassis. It's just been used for mock up and has now had 100mm added to the width and had the bulk head modified to fit a BMW V8. It's being given to me by a UK forum member so I can learn some welding and fabrication skills.

More to follow.

I took a left at Albuquerque...

I had our route all planned out:

1. Drive from Wiesbaden to Calais (spend the night)
2. Drive through the Chunnel and up to Skegness for the trailer
3. Drive from Skegness to Huddersfield for "the car" (spend the night)
4. Drive to Biggleswade for the mock up "Mule" chassis
5. Drive through the Chunnel to Calais (spend the night)
6. Drive to Wiesbaden and get ta wrenchin'.

That left at Albuquerque had us drive up to Rotterdam and take a ferry to Hull for just a Northern Tour for the car and trailer, skipping the route down South for the mock up "Mule" chassis. It saved a LOT of driving and the (spend the night) was on a ferry making progress, so it cut a day off the trip too.

I ain't skeered er nuthin'! I just ain't ready fer all that weldin' just yet. I wanna go fast!!

Of course,... The Ginetta G20 we got to get us started is going to take just a wee bit of assembly first...

I've still got my eyes open for a good deal on a Locost chassis to play with. I guy can never have too many projects,... right?

Looks like it was well worth the trip!

I'd use the mock up frame after a thorough inspection and reinforcement if necessary.

So, it's been almost 2 months, but I finally made it back over to the storage unit to take a closer look at the Ginetta.

It has some pretty bad fiberglass repairs and a bad crack at the cowl that I will have to fix at some point.

We took the body and roll cage off and brought the chassis back to the house to start figuring out the reassembly.

There's no way a Slant 6 will fit in this thing. Some folks have put V6's in them, but the standard engine is the 1.8 litre Ztec.

It isn't a Locost, but we took the standard build photo anyway... :)
